MBZUAI, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi partner to advance research and education

UAE – Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) has joined hands with Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi in their shared commitment to advancing research, innovation, and education in The United Arab Emirates.

Through a Memorandum of Understanding, MBZUAI and Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, part of the M42 network, have pledged an earnest commitment to work together to drive research and education initiatives.

This partnership follows the launch of an Institute of Foundation Models for advanced AI research at Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence.

It aligns with the university’s main objective of empowering students, businesses, and governments to advance artificial intelligence as a global force for positive progress.

In a joint press statement from MBZUAI and Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, MBZUAI’s Acting Provost Professor Timothy Baldwin said: “Healthcare is a key pillar for MBZUAI. We’re excited to collaborate with Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi to nurture and upskill professional talent and guide healthcare delivery.”

Professor Timothy Baldwin underscored that MBZUAI is currently advancing AI research and development in diagnostics, as well as digital twins and brain health.

He explained that they are looking to assist healthcare professionals in the field and raise awareness of how artificial intelligence can be applied in the sector.

Notably, MBZUAI offers various graduate programs designed to pursue advanced, specialized knowledge and skills in artificial intelligence, including computer science, computer vision, machine learning, natural language processing, and robotics.

As specified in the latest MoU, MBZUAI, and Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi will strive to create various development opportunities in the two fields of research and education.

These opportunities include conducting joint research projects, establishing research groups, and developing mentorship programs for undergraduate and graduate students.

With a commitment to promoting research and education, the collaboration initiatives outlined in the MoU will significantly contribute to Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi’s commitment to building a sustainable healthcare ecosystem in the UAE.

This strategic alliance comes as Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi has earned a prestigious reputation for its world-class complex care, making it a preferred choice for patients across the globe.

In her address, Dr. Sawsan Abdel Razig, Chief Academic Officer at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, stated: “By harnessing the collective strengths of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi and MBZUAI, we can explore the infinite application of artificial intelligence in research and education to predict and shape the healthcare model and community of the future.”
