UAE – Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) has signed a five-year cooperative research and development (R&D) agreement with Infinite Brain Technologies (IBT) to pioneer digital health solutions for brain disorders.

The strategic deal is part of MBZUAI ‘s ongoing efforts to educate and develop top talent, foster an innovation ecosystem, and act as a strategic think tank for the public and private sectors.

It comes shortly after MBZUAI teamed up with BioMap, a disruptive super-scale AI model-powered life science platform, to establish the first biocomputing innovation research laboratory in the Middle East.

In January 2023, Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence joined forces with Quris, an artificial intelligence (AI) innovator in the pharmaceutical arena, to develop a centre of excellence in Bio-AI in Abu Dhabi.

MBZUAI and IBT, a neuroscience smart healthcare company based in Beijing, have signed an agreement to set up a joint research lab in Abu Dhabi focused on designing, developing, deploying, and scaling digital solutions for brain health.

The joint research lab will support the development of precise, personalised Digital Therapeutics (DTx) for human brain health by optimising the power of artificial intelligence technologies.

Leveraging IBT’s capacity in the development and commercialisation of digital therapeutics along with MBZUAI’s expertise in artificial intelligence, the partnership aims to achieve breakthroughs in precision medicine for brain and mental disorder treatments.

The technological developments will enable researchers at the joint lab to better understand the correlations between cognitive training and improvements in mental conditions.

Subsequently, the two industry thought leaders will use the research insights to guide the development of precise digital therapeutics for brain health, creating physical and mental wellness solutions for patients.

The collaboration touches on advanced topics in Machine Learning for brain science in line with MBZUAI’s research mission to improve health outcomes and quality of life through the deployment of AI-based solutions.

MBZUAI machine learning researchers investigate the development of algorithms that can improve automated cognition, perception, and action, with a focus on both fundamental and applied research in the areas of health, climate, and education.

Under the R&D agreement, MBZUAI and IBT will jointly create enormous possibilities to explore the untapped areas of brain science and push the boundaries of mental health interventions.

The partnership will also create opportunities for joint research and development of technology and healthcare breakthroughs between Abu Dhabi and China.
