UAE—Mediclinic Middle East, a renowned private healthcare provider in the UAE with offices mostly in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, has teamed with its sister Mediclinic division in Switzerland, Hirslanden, to launch clinical research to enhance breast cancer treatment techniques.
In the new collaboration, Dr. Annett Hamadi, Consultant General and Breast Surgeon at Mediclinic City Hospital in Dubai, will serve as the Principal Investigator, with Professor Christoph Tausch from Hirslanden’s Breast Centre in Zurich serving as the Coordinating Investigator.
According to the researchers, the new initiative will investigate whether imaging and intelligent vacuum-assisted tissue biopsy are sufficient to establish the success of chemotherapy performed before tumour removal in persons with breast cancer.
The initiative will also look into whether such methods could predict full recovery in some patients, allowing them to avoid surgery.
The findings of this experiment will assist in enhancing treatment strategies for breast cancer patients.
420 patients have been enrolled in the trial, which will run until the end of 2025 in the UAE, Switzerland, Austria, and Germany.
Dr. Hamadi expressed his delight at the first clinical trial collaboration, stating that Mediclinic Middle East has been developing Research and Innovation for six years, with hundreds of research projects involving clinical personnel from all fields successfully completed.
“Working together gives us access to a much wider pool of patients and enables us to leverage the extraordinary levels of knowledge and expertise present in our combined geographies,” she added.
She also highlighted that the new clinical trial would increase the quality and reliability of the research project, which is designed to improve treatment techniques and, as a result, clinical outcomes for breast cancer patients, and she hopes that it would aid in future breast cancer research.
Cancer diagnosis and treatment at Mediclinic Middle East are among the most modern in the UAE. The institution has two Comprehensive Cancer Centers, one at Mediclinic City Hospital in Dubai and one at Mediclinic Airport Road Hospital in Abu Dhabi.
These two cancer treatment centres have been constructed in conjunction with Hirslanden in Switzerland.
Patients are set to benefit from the exchange of knowledge and expertise between some of Europe’s and the Middle East’s top oncologists and access to cutting-edge treatment programs and technology.
