INDIA- Merck has established a Healthcare R&D Excellence Center facility that will help develop future medical treatments for individuals with unmet medical requirements all around the world.

The R&D Excellence Centre strives to encourage innovation in the scientific community to improve healthcare solutions all over the world by utilizing India’s scientific expertise and technological achievements.

Since 2020, the Excellence center has hired over 300 people, and over the following two years, it will continue to grow.

Suneela Thatte, VP and Head of R&D Excellence Centre said, “The center in Bengaluru aims to establish a one-team culture, delivering critical responsibilities in the drug development journey as well as developing a valuable talent pool. “

She added that the R&D Excellence Centre strives to bring the best of global practices and local talent to enable the vision of enhanced patient outcomes.

Since its establishment in 2021, the R&D Excellence Centre has evolved to include numerous functions that are essential to R&D.

It performs a variety of tasks, such as managing scientific interchange to improve patient care by increasing efficiency and assuring quality and consistency.

It monitors the safety of Merck’s medications throughout their usage in clinical practice.

The strategy, Portfolio & Innovation (SP&I) team integrates cross-functional management of the development portfolio with R&D digital and data transformation.

Merck believes that by making its lab facilities available to other pharmaceutical companies, it will be able to support Indian businesses throughout the entire technology transfer process.

Currently, the center performs six distinct tasks: Global Regulatory Affairs (GRA) harmonizes and centralizes regulatory execution, driving deliverables in close coordination with other R&D hubs in healthcare as well as global R&D activities.

The safety of Merck’s medications is continuously monitored by Global Patient Safety (GPS) throughout clinical practice.

The group works closely with the global R&D departments and contributes significantly to the incorporation of extensive safety knowledge into early decision-making.

Leveraging technological and digital advancements, Global Development Operations (GDO), in coordination with global R&D operations, provides a clinical research portfolio.

The strategy, Portfolio & Innovation (SP&I) team integrates cross-functional management of the development portfolio with R&D digital and data transformation.

By increasing efficiency and assuring quality and consistency, the Global Scientific Interchange and Communication (GSEC) organizes scientific exchange to improve patient care.

The Global Biostatistics Epidemiology and Medical Writing (GBEM) team of medical writers is committed to constantly advancing medicine by bringing data to life in fundamental decision-making.
