UAE – The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) has entered into a strategic partnership with AstraZeneca to reduce the growing burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

This partnership is poised to amplify and expand the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases in the UAE, and ultimately, promote healthy lifestyles.

In a press release, MoHAP asserted: “The collaboration’s objective is to enhance the quality of life for individuals and communities by creating a world-class healthcare system.”

MoHAP and AstraZeneca have agreed to support national initiatives aimed at promoting healthy lifestyles and reducing morbidity rates associated with non-communicable diseases.

The two parties will jointly organize workshops, events, and initiatives that contribute to raising awareness and education on enhancing the quality of life.

The Ministry of Health and Prevention and AstraZeneca intend to organise educational and awareness programmes aimed at reducing non-communicable diseases throughout the UAE.

Welcoming the partnership, Sameh El Fangary, Country President for the Gulf Cooperation Council at AstraZeneca, underscored: “AstraZeneca looks forward to collaborating with MoHAP to combat non-communicable diseases and disease factors and enhance the quality of healthy life”.

Additionally, the partnership will facilitate the planning, implementation, and strategic follow-up of relevant initiatives in healthcare that will positively impact people’s lives and health.

The strategic agreement will focus on specific areas of cooperation and coordination between both parties to tackle non-communicable diseases.

These non-communicable diseases, include oncology, cardiovascular diseases, renal diseases, and respiratory diseases, just to name a few.

AstraZeneca is committed to supporting the UAE’s vision, achieving its goals in the field of healthy quality of life, and contributing to building a world-class healthcare system,” added El Fangary.

Moreover, MoHAP and AstraZeneca will provide support for training and capacity-building programmes related to the areas covered by the scope of cooperation between the two parties.

The signing ceremony was presided over by Dr. Hussain Abdul Rahman Al Rand, the Assistant Undersecretary for the Public Health Sector, and Ruud Dobber, AstraZeneca Executive Vice President for the Biopharmaceuticals Business Unit.

In his address, Dr. Hussain Abdul Rahman Al Rand, the Assistant Undersecretary for the Public Health Sector, said: “The partnership between the Ministry of Health and Prevention and AstraZeneca will support the National Policy for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs).”

Dr. Hussein Al Rand noted that the strategic deal is a step forward in improving the quality of life for individuals and society by promoting healthy practices as part of the National Wellbeing Strategy 2031.

He expressed optimism that this strategic partnership would yield positive results in enhancing the health and safety of the community.

MoHAP will continue to work jointly with partners to achieve common goals and improve the quality of healthy life in the UAE,” Dr. Hussein Al Rand reaffirmed to the nationals.
