UAE – The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) is set to release a new draft policy for women’s health, providing tailored healthcare within a unified, multisectoral national framework.

In line with the directives of the Government of the United Arab Emirates and in alignment with global best practices, this draft policy will set out a vision, values as well as multifaceted objectives.

The new policy will be built based on core values such as leadership support, governance, gender equality in health, a holistic life cycle approach to health, and a dedication to quality and inclusivity in women’s health services.

In a press release, Abdulrahman bin Mohamed Al Owais, the Minister of Health and Prevention underscored: “The UAE prioritizes promoting healthcare standards and achieving sustainable development in the health sector. Women’s health is not just an integral part of this vision but a testament to our nation’s commitment to its people.”

In collaboration with strategic partners, the Ministry of Health and Prevention will soon release the national policy as the nation commemorates Emirati Women’s Day 2023.

The MoHAP is commemorating Emirati Women’s Day by tightening health policies tailored to address the unique health needs of women throughout every phase of their lives.

The formulation of the national women’s health policy will help in realizing the strategic efforts of the UAE’s visionary leadership to deliver the best physical and psychological healthcare services for women.

In the new policy draft, the Ministry of Health and Prevention intends to ensure the integration of women’s health across all policy areas and the principle of shared responsibility.

Commenting on the new health policy Abdulrahman bin Mohamed Al Owais, said: “The development of a national policy to promote women’s health is not merely a step forward; it’s a reflection of the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.”

As part of the new guidelines, the MoHAP organized a workshop to develop a unified national framework to consolidate efforts across sectors, enhance women’s health, and continue improving both preventive and curative healthcare services for women throughout their lives.

The MoHAP-led workshop provided an opportunity for key actors to assess the status of women’s health services, learn more about how strategic development mechanisms can be implemented, and analyze local and global statistics.

During the workshop, Dr. Hussain Abdul Rahman Al Rand, Assistant Undersecretary for the Public Health Sector, lauded the benefits of collaborative efforts between MoHAP and all stakeholders in shaping the national policy to advance women’s health.

In demonstrating the remarkable status of women within the United Arab Emirates, Dr. Al Rand stated: “The steadfast support of the nation’s visionary leadership has equipped women with the necessary tools to play pivotal roles in societal contributions, particularly within the health sector, establishing them as integral pillars of the healthcare system.”

The workshop was attended by representatives of health authorities, several officials, public health and health education experts, and partners from diverse sectors dedicated to promoting women’s health.

Consequently, the Ministry of Health and Prevention is currently drafting a preliminary version of the national policy to bolster women’s health, in collaboration with stakeholders.

This draft will highlight the indomitable role of women in sculpting future generations who will spearhead the UAE’s continued journey of progress, leadership, and nation-building.
