UAE – The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) is rolling out a back-to-school health awareness campaign designed to acquaint parents and students with insights into the significance of adopting healthy lifestyles.
The launch of this awareness campaign is well aligned with the MoHAP’s overarching strategy aimed at managing community health and preventative programs, uplifting the quality of life, bolstering public health, and fostering a society that’s informed, safe, and keenly health-aware.
To ensure widespread reach, the campaign will strategically utilize various communication avenues, ranging from social media and educational establishments to healthcare centers and shopping complexes.
Commenting on the newly launched campaign, Dr. Hussain Abdul Rahman Al Rand, Assistant Undersecretary for the Public Health Sector, said: “The initiative falls under the umbrella of the ‘Health-Promoting Schools’ initiative launched by the World Health Organisation and UNESCO to holistically enhance the health and well-being of students.”
Backed by the MoHAP’s representative offices across the United Arab Emirates, the back-to-school health awareness campaign will feature community events and educative sessions.
The two-week-long campaign will focus on the benefits of consistent physical activity, a balanced diet, regulated sleep patterns, and controlled electronic screen time, with a particular emphasis on how these improvements impact children.
The health awareness campaign, which is scheduled to run until August 31, will feature a wide range of community events held at participating “Lulu Hypermarket” centers.
The series of activities includes healthy cooking workshops for parents and children guided by expert chefs, where the attendees learn how to prepare nutritious school meals.
“By endorsing innovative programmes centered around nutrition and physical activities, we are not only catering to their immediate health needs but also fortifying their futures in harmony with our National Nutrition Strategy,” observed Dr. Al Rand.
Moreover, the community events will feature discussions with health educators on packing a balanced school lunch, body mass index (BMI) screenings, and health counseling for parents.
Nutritionists will not only conduct virtual awareness workshops targeting students’ families and employers in the UAE but also offer engaging quizzes and health prescription booklets.
Under the back-to-school health awareness campaign, the Ministry of Health and Prevention has also organized an exclusive awareness session tailor-made for MoHAP employees.
It is expected to promote the adoption of health-conscious practices for students and parents, aligning with the MoHAP’s commitment to holistic health and wellness as students gear up for the academic year.
The objective of this campaign is also to provide doctor-approved information about seasonal influenza and respiratory diseases.
Additionally, the initiative will help speed the MoHAP’s preventive efforts to encourage the community to actively engage in annual vaccination drives.
As students prepare to resume classroom learning, the health ministry has pledged to equip both students and educators with the right tools and knowledge to foster a safe and health-conscious environment.
The Ministry of Health and Prevention is closely collaborating with educational entities and health entities nationwide to secure a safe and health-oriented environment for school-going children.
