MOROCCO – A new primary care centre has opened at the Mohammed VI University in Tangier, the cosmopolitan city located in the northern part of Morocco.

The inauguration ceremony was officiated by His Majesty Sidi Mohammed bin Hassan al-Alawi, the King of Morocco.

This news follows the launch of a proximity medical centre (CMP) christened Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity in Errahma in Casablanca’s Dar Bouazza Commune.

Mohammed VI University Hospital Center (CHU) will offer comprehensive healthcare services to the residents of the port city and advanced training to nurses, doctors, and pharmacists.

This medical complex sits on a 23-hectare site located near the regional oncology center, the nurse training institute, and the School of Medicine & Pharmacy.

The facility is outfitted with the latest medical technologies and trained medical personnel to provide the best possible in-patient and out-patient hospital services in various specialities.

Located in the urban commune of Gueznaya in the Tangier-Assilah prefecture, the center complements the functions of the faculty of medicine and pharmacy.

Co-financed by the State budget and the Qatari Fund for Development, the state-of-the-art facility is projected to allow for the structuring of medical care in the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region.

It is one of the many development projects launched by the Sovereign in the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region to strengthen its international influence and attractiveness.

Moreover, the Qatar Fund for Development injected over US$238 million into the construction of the Mohammed VI University Hospital Center in Tangier.

This financial support aligns with the Qatar Fund for Development’s commitment to supporting and implementing several joint development projects in Morocco.

The facility will offer pneumology, hematology, endocrinology, cardiology, neurology, nephrology, ophthalmology and nuclear medicine, intensive care, plastic surgery, and burns treatment services.

Additionally, the 797-bed hospital center houses special units for the treatment of sleep disorders, marrow transplants, obesity treatment, and cardiovascular rehabilitation.

The facility also features units specialized in mother-child health, emergency medical service (SAMU), medical imaging service, hematology, pathological anatomy, cytology, and molecular genetics.

Mohammed VI University Hospital Center houses a Trauma Center, laboratories focused on bacteriology/microbiology, and 3D printing of medical devices (LABFAB), alongside educational and training areas.

The medical facility also has 31 operating rooms equipped with smart and cutting-edge technology, a modern pharmacy with robotic & digital drug dispensing solutions, a large conference room, a heliport, and several administrative and technical facilities.

Furthermore, the university hospital reflects Morocco’s sustainability and energy efficiency goals as it has photovoltaic panel installations, a plant for laboratory wastewater treatment, and a site for treating solid medical waste.
