UAE — The National Multiple Sclerosis Society (NMSS) has launched the MS Helpline, a pioneering initiative to support individuals living with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) across the UAE.
The helpline provides essential services, including access to MS specialists, active listening support, and mental health assessments.
Additionally, it will serve as a valuable data collection tool to strengthen NMSS programs and better serve the MS community.
This initiative is made possible through the support of Mubadala via the Mubadala Foundation and is operated by M42.
The MS Helpline ensures confidential, impartial, and reliable assistance, offering personalized advice and information to help those affected by MS.
It is available daily from 10 AM to 10 PM by dialing 800677 and marks the UAE’s first phone-based MS support service.
H.E. Ahmed Taleb Al Shamsi, CEO of the Emirates Foundation and Vice Chair of NMSS, highlighted the UAE’s commitment to advancing healthcare for all.
He emphasized that the MS Helpline will significantly improve access to resources and information for MS patients and their caregivers.
Al Shamsi expressed pride in the helpline being a first-of-its-kind initiative in the region, adding that the NMSS looks forward to enhancing its offerings based on community feedback as the program evolves.
Mansour Ahmed Al Ketbi, Deputy Chief Corporate and Human Capital Officer at Mubadala, highlighted the importance of the collaboration between NMSS and Ma’an.
He reaffirmed Mubadala’s dedication to supporting initiatives that drive meaningful social impact, noting that the MS Helpline aims to improve the quality of life for people affected by MS by providing essential resources and support.
Hasan Jasem Al Nowais, Managing Director and Group CEO of M42 and Chairman of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, echoed these sentiments.
He stressed that individuals with MS often face feelings of isolation and anxiety, which the MS Helpline aims to address.
By offering support outside regular working hours, it fills a critical gap and ensures that people receive timely guidance, reducing stress and empowering them to lead fulfilling lives.
The MS Helpline also aligns with the goals of the National MS Coalition, which NMSS announced on World MS Day in May 2024.
The coalition seeks to implement a comprehensive national MS strategy, foster collaboration, and improve the overall quality of life for people living with MS in the UAE.
