KENYA — Kenya’s premier healthcare institution, The Nairobi Hospital has reaffirmed its commitment to the United Nations Global Compact Principles under the visionary leadership of CEO James Nyamongo.
This pivotal step not only marks a profound alignment with global sustainability goals but also signifies a pioneering approach to healthcare that prioritizes the well-being of both patients and the planet.
Global Compact Network Kenya (GCNK) Kenya Executive Director Judy Njino warmly welcomes the hospital to this transformative movement, recognizing its potential to set a powerful precedent for the entire healthcare industry.
The ripple effect from this commitment could bring about positive changes throughout the broader healthcare ecosystem.
Mr. Nyamongo wholeheartedly pledges both his personal and corporate devotion to this noble cause, emphasizing that sustainability forms the very core of the hospital’s current strategy and will continue as an unwavering pillar in the journey ahead.
Remarkably, The Nairobi Hospital stands as one of over 800 companies in Kenya that have affirmed their dedication to the Code of Ethics for Business in Kenya.
By joining hands with other stakeholders, these companies are unwavering in their pursuit of an ethical and transparent business environment.
The UN Global Compact beckons companies to rise as forces for good in society, urging them to strategically advance overarching societal goals, such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
This initiative places a strong emphasis on collaboration and innovation, values that The Nairobi Hospital now proudly embodies.
A thrilling leap in healthcare quality
In a remarkable turn of events, The Nairobi Hospital has invested an astounding sum of over Sh1.6 billion (US$ 10.8 million) in various projects over the past year.
These visionary endeavors are poised to elevate the quality of healthcare services offered to patients not only in Kenya but also throughout East and Central Africa.
These projects, financed entirely through internally generated revenues, have been expedited with a dual purpose: to stem the tide of thousands of Kenyan nationals seeking medical treatment abroad and to beckon patients from neighboring countries like Uganda, Ethiopia, DRC, South Sudan, Rwanda, Burundi, Malawi, and beyond.
Year after year, over 10,000 Kenyans journey overseas, often to India and South Africa, in search of treatment for various ailments.
This not only imposes a substantial financial burden on affected families but also drains precious foreign exchange reserves from the country.
Speaking at this year’s annual general meeting, the Chairman of the Board of Management, Major (rtd) Dr. Irungu Ndirangu, proudly asserted that the hospital’s brand equity and quality are par excellence, not only in Kenya but also across the region.
“Our multimillion-shilling infrastructural initiatives encompass the recent acquisition and installation of a state-of-the-art Biplane Cath Lab, a pioneering facility in East and Central Africa, designed for cardio, neuro, and vascular treatment services,” declared Dr. Ndirangu.
Furthermore, MRI equipment has undergone a significant upgrade, ensuring top-tier services for patients.
The hospital has successfully completed the construction of two state-of-the-art theaters, cutting-edge laboratories, and advanced pharmacies that cater to the needs of patients from Kenya and beyond.
The hospital has embarked on a transformational digital journey, aiming to provide patients with nothing but the finest care.
This digital transformation project includes the implementation of a novel health management information system and an enterprise resource planner meticulously designed to streamline information flow throughout the institution.
Vice Chairman Dr. Chris Bichage acknowledged the ever-evolving healthcare landscape, stating, “We are continually diversifying our revenue streams and enhancing our comprehensive cost-control program. Our focus remains on optimizing our supply chain and elevating operational efficiency.”
“We have invested significantly in capital projects to enhance the quality of care, coupled with a relentless pursuit of digital transformation,” Dr. Bichage affirmed.
“We firmly believe that an unwavering commitment to quality will not only benefit our patients but also attract more healthcare consumers to choose The Nairobi Hospital as their preferred medical destination.”
CEO James Nyamongo concurred, saying, “We have taken significant strides to reposition our facility as the premier healthcare provider in the region and beyond. Our strategic projects, all financially self-sustained, are poised to deliver unparalleled performance in the short term while ensuring long-term sustainability.”
