JAPAN —Olympus Corporation, a global leader in medical technology, has launched VISERA S, an all-in-one imaging platform equipped with stroboscopy capabilities.
This new platform is part of the company’s ongoing commitment to enhancing healthcare through innovative MedTech solutions and follows the recent introduction of two advanced bronchoscopes into the EVIS X1 Endoscopy System in May 2024.
The release of VISERA S further expands Olympus’s efforts to redefine diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities in the field of bronchoscopy and beyond.
VISERA S is designed to offer advanced diagnostic tools for Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) specialists within a single integrated video platform.
It incorporates Olympus’ Narrow Band Imaging (NBI) technology, which enhances visualization of vascular structures and mucosa by improving contrast and visibility.
This feature, along with the platform’s stroboscopy and high-definition (HD) video quality, is expected to significantly improve physicians’ ability to detect, characterize, and treat ENT diseases.
According to Olympus, the platform will first be available in Europe, parts of Asia, and Oceania starting in September 2024. It will be introduced to other regions after regulatory approvals are secured.
This phased rollout highlights the company’s dedication to meeting regulatory standards and ensuring global access to its latest technological innovations.
One of the standout features of VISERA S is its ability to integrate multiple functionalities, which were previously housed in separate units, into one streamlined platform.
Clinicians can now switch effortlessly between white light, NBI, and stroboscopy modes at the touch of a button, enhancing ease of use and improving operational efficiency during procedures.
The new platform is also compatible with a wide range of Olympus equipment, including scopes, camera heads, and monitors.
It is a highly adaptable solution for various medical settings, from outpatient clinics to private practices.
Furthermore, VISERA S improves upon its predecessors with expanded image and video storage capabilities.
While earlier models were limited to storing still images, this platform can record high-quality video, allowing for comprehensive procedural documentation and enhanced reporting.
The video system center is integrated with multiple light sources, eliminating the need for separate components and simplifying clinicians’ setup.
Martijn Koster, Global ENT Business Unit Leader at Olympus, highlighted VISERA S’s potential to revolutionize early diagnosis in ENT care.
He emphasized that the platform was designed with both physicians and patients in mind, aiming to bring advanced, patient-friendly diagnostic tools to outpatient offices and private practices.
Koster further noted that by focusing on customer feedback and patient needs, Olympus hopes VISERA S will help physicians detect diseases earlier in the care pathway, ultimately improving patient outcomes.
