OMAN – Oman’s Ministry of Health plans to award a months-long US$50 million contract for the expansion of its Nizwa Hospital situated in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate in the Wilayat of Bowsher.
Nizwa Hospital is an independent regional referral hospital of the Ministry of Health designated to meet the health care needs of mainly the people of Al Dakhiliyah Governorate.
The Ministry of Health is expected to award the design and build contract for the Nizwa Hospital Expansion and Modification project by the fourth quarter of 2023.
According to the Ministry of Health, the second phase of the Nizwa Hospital extension project involves the addition of new buildings and medical equipment.
The second phase of the MOH project also seeks to boost the bed capacity of Nizwa Hospital, in particular, raise the number of beds for various specialisations.
It is pertinent to note that the tender for the design and build contract was re-issued on 25th June 2023 with a submission deadline of 6th September 2023.
The list of companies in the financial bid includes Dawood Contracting (US$5.4 million), Nafal Contracting and Trading Co (US$8.7 million), Al Adrak Trading and Contracting (US$49.6 million), and Alyam Enterprises (US$7 million).
Oman’s Ministry of Health intends to announce the qualifying companies under the project contract before the end of the fourth quarter of 2023.
The Ministry of Health plans to complete the expansion of Nizwa Hospital in the Al Dakhiliyah Governorate by the end of the first quarter of 2025.
Oman to launch 11 new hospitals countrywide
In a major boost to the Sultanate of Oman’s health infrastructure, the Ministry of Health is gearing up to establish eleven medical centers across the country.
The upcoming healthcare facilities will be strategically positioned in various governates across the sultanate to improve access to healthcare services.
To improve healthcare accessibility, the Ministry of Health plans to open the new Sultan Qaboos Hospital in Dhofar Governorate, and the Salalah-based ultramodern facility is slated to open in 2025.
Construction of a 164-bed Khasab Hospital is well in progress in the mountainous Musandam Governorate and will be fully operational before the end of 2024.
Construction has also begun on a new 307-bed capacity Al Suwaiq Hospital in the Al Batinah North Governorate – which is expected to open in 2024.
Oman’s Ministry of Health also intends to build a new Mahout Hospital in the Al Wusta Governorate and the facility will be done by the end of 2025.
As part of the ongoing efforts to improve access to healthcare services, work is underway to upgrade the Mad’ha Health Centre in the Musandam Governorate to a full-fledged hospital.
The Thamrait Health Centre, located north of the state on the road between Muscat and Salalah, is also set to be upgraded and refurbished into a hospital this year.
