OMAN – In a major boost to the Sultanate of Oman’s health infrastructure, the Ministry of Health is gearing up to establish eleven medical centres across the country.

The upcoming healthcare facilities will be strategically positioned in various governates across the sultanate to improve access to healthcare services.

To improve healthcare accessibility, the Ministry of Health plans to open the new Sultan Qaboos Hospital in Dhofar Governorate and the Salalah-based ultramodern facility is slated to open in 2025.

Construction of a 164-bed Khasab Hospital is well in progress in the mountainous Musandam Governorate and will be fully operational before the end of 2024.

Construction has also begun on a new 307-bed capacity Al Suwaiq Hospital in the Al Batinah North Governorate – which is expected to open in 2024.

Oman’s Ministry of Health also intends to build a new Mahout Hospital in the Al Wusta Governorate and the facility will be done by the end of 2025.

To improve access to healthcare services, plans are underway to upgrade the Mad’ha Health Centre in the Musandam Governorate to a full-fledged hospital.

In an official statement, Jamal Salim Al Shanfari, the Director General of Projects and Engineering Affairs at the Ministry of Health, confirmed that the Musandam-based hospital will be operational by the end of 2023.

The Thamrait Health Centre, located north of the state on the road between Muscat and Salalah, is also set to be upgraded and refurbished into a hospital this year.

Jamal Salim Al Shanfari further disclosed that the design and layout work on three new hospitals was in the final stage in preparation for floating and bidding.

According to the high-level government official, the new Al Falah Hospital will sit in the Ash Sharqiyah South Governorate.

The new Samayil Hospital will be based in the Al Dakhiliyah Governorate while the Al Nama Hospital will be located in the Ash Sharqiyah North Governorate.

Following the slip of the Ash Sharqiyah Region into Ash Sharqiyah North Governorate and Ash Sharqiyah South Governorate, the new hospitals will serve residents in the two governorates.

Similarly, Dr. Sulaiman Al-Habib Medical Group (HMG) has invested over SAR 6.5 billion (US$1.73B) toward an infrastructure project to build six hospitals in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The strategic moves align with the organisation’s mission to develop state-of-the-art medical facilities and provide innovative healthcare services that deliver value to its population.
