OMRON Healthcare India partners AliveCor to launch portable ECG monitoring devices

INDIA – OMRON Healthcare India, a subsidiary of renowned Japanese medical equipment company, has forged a partnership with AliveCor India, a prominent player in personal electrocardiogram (ECG) technology.

This collaboration marks a significant step towards enhancing cardiovascular health awareness and prevention in India.

“By joining forces with AliveCor, we are advancing our ‘Going for Zero’ vision, aiming to elevate cardiovascular health awareness and thwart incidents,” stated OMRON Healthcare India.

This collaboration introduces AI-based handheld ECG technology, complementing OMRON’s existing reputation as a leading provider of blood pressure monitors in India.

In a statement, the company said that this collaboration marked a significant milestone in OMRON’s ‘Going for Zero’ vision to enhance cardiovascular health awareness and prevent incidents,

It brings forth devices including the first home BPM+ECG Monitoring FDA cleared Device (blood pressure monitor with AliveCor ECG capability in a single device) for early CVD (CardioVascular Disease) detection and management and AliveCor’s FDA-cleared world’s most clinically-validated and pocket-sized personal ECGs.

These devices instantly detect various arrhythmias, including atrial fibrillation (Afib), bradycardia, tachycardia, and more.

OMRON Healthcare has been a pioneer in hypertension management for nearly five decades. However, recognizing the evolving landscape of healthcare needs, OMRON aims to broaden its focus beyond hypertension.

“With a deeper dive into cardiovascular health, the company has unearthed the crucial role of Afib as a significant contributor to stroke and cardiovascular disease risk,” the statement continued. Indeed, hypertension stands as one of the primary risk factors for developing AFib.

“Afib disrupts the normal heartbeat and causes small and irregular vibrations in the heart, leading to the collection of blood inside. This can create a clot in the heart, which can travel to the brain, and cause a stroke,” explained Tetsuya Yamada, Managing Director of OMRON Healthcare India.

India, home to over 220 million hypertension sufferers, faces a significant gap in monitoring and treatment.

Despite this staggering figure, only a small fraction receive adequate treatment or utilize digital blood pressure monitors. This points to a critical need for enhanced awareness and accessibility in cardiovascular care.

Elaborating on the collaboration with AliveCor, Tetsuya Yamada emphasized the shared vision of eliminating cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease episodes.

“Guided by our vision – ‘Going for Zero,’ to eliminate cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease episodes, we are collaborating with like-minded organizations such as AliveCor to provide new technologies that enhance accuracy, quality, and accessibility of home as well as remote patient monitoring, empowering individuals to manage their conditions effectively,” said Yamada.

The collaboration extends the reach of innovative devices like OMRON COMPLETE – ECG Machine + BP Monitor, KardiaMobile, and KardiaMobile 6L.

These offerings include the first FDA-cleared home monitoring device integrating blood pressure monitoring and ECG capabilities into a single unit, aimed at the early detection and management of Cardiovascular Diseases (CVDs).

“At AliveCor, delivering cutting-edge technology that revolutionizes cardiac care through mobile technology is ingrained in our ethos,” commented Anuj Seth, Managing Director of AliveCor India.

“We are dedicated to expanding access to remote patient care to reach as many individuals as possible. Partnering with OMRON Healthcare India allows us to extend the reach of our products to more patients, thereby saving more lives.”
