USA —PATH International, a global non-profit healthcare organization headquartered in Seattle, Washington State, has announced the appointment of Tarryn Haslam as the head of their Malaria and Neglected Tropical Disease (MNTD) program.
With over 17 years of experience in public health interventions, Haslam brings a wealth of expertise to her new role.
Based in London, United Kingdom, she will oversee more than 300 staff members across 25 projects spanning over 40 countries.
PATH’s MNTD program is one of their largest portfolios and plays a crucial role in the organization’s mission to achieve health equity for all. Haslam’s leadership will be instrumental in fulfilling this mandate.
Prior to joining PATH, she served as the Director of Malaria and Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH) at Population Services International, where she supervised global technical and operational implementations from their Nairobi, Kenya offices.
Haslam’s extensive experience and exposure to Malaria-related issues have been instrumental in building and implementing large-scale health programs, providing technical assistance to national governments.
She has also demonstrated a strong collaborative spirit by forging and managing partnerships with key stakeholders in the MNTD field. Beyond her work in Malaria and WASH, Haslam has been involved in programs addressing HIV/AIDS and child survival.
In her new role as Director of the MNTD program, Haslam will guide its strategic direction, oversee implementation and evaluation, and collaborate closely with other PATH programs and innovation divisions to identify cross-program opportunities and synergies.
Kammerle Schneider, Chief of Programs & Innovation at PATH, commented on Haslam’s suitability for the role, stating, “Tarryn’s extensive experience in program management, business development, and donor management makes her an excellent fit for this role.”
Haslam holds a Master of Arts in Environment and Development from King’s College London and a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Geography, Environment, and Development from the University of Durham.
PATH’s commitment to combating malaria and neglected tropical diseases is evident through their various initiatives and partnerships.
The Malaria Control and Elimination Partnership in Africa (MACEPA), funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, has been instrumental in generating evidence to inform national strategic plans and improve malaria control efforts in sub-Saharan Africa.
In countries like Zambia and Senegal, PATH has provided programmatic support, including data-driven decision-making, policy development, and collaboration on cross-border issues.
PATH’s involvement extends beyond malaria control. They lead the PMI/Digital Square Digital Community Health Initiative, supporting digital health technologies in community health programs across 27 countries.
The Malaria Vaccine Initiative focuses on the development of malaria vaccine candidates, while the Partnership for Vivax Elimination aims to improve access to glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) diagnostics and drugs for P. vivax.
Additionally, PATH evaluates new insecticidal nets and plays a pivotal role in the fight against neglected diseases.
Haslam expressed her excitement about her new role on LinkedIn, stating, “After more than 16 wonderful years at PSI, I am very excited to be joining PATH as their Director for Malaria and Neglected Tropical Diseases on May 16th.”
