FINLAND – Oulu University Hospital (Finland) and Royal Philips have announced a strategic 10-year partnership to support the latter’s OYS2030 renewal program.
The program aims to improve the operations and infrastructure of Oulu University Hospital in order to meet the needs of future specialized treatment for Northern Finland’s 750,000 residents.
Philips will provide updated image-guided therapy solutions, as well as maintenance, consulting, and financing services, as part of the partnership.
According to Philips, the partnership includes an optional 10-year extension.
In the first phase, Philips will provide 11 interventional suites for interventional cardiology and interventional radiology departments, each equipped with a Philips Azurion with FlexArm.
The interventional suites will support interventions such as catheter-based cardiac and vascular procedures, as well as the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias and acute neuro interventions and procedures to treat cancer.
The suites will include Philips’ IntraSight interventional applications platform, which will support physiology, imaging, and co-registration tools for image-guided procedures.
Philips Hybrid OR – Azurion will also be installed for very complex procedures such as transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR), or combination therapies where open and minimally-invasive surgery may both be involved.
Philips will also use its interventional hemodynamic system in conjunction with the IntelliVue X3 patient monitoring system to measure ECG, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and respiration rate prior to, during, and after image-guided procedures.
Philips Nordics general manager MikkoVasama said: “Through our long-term strategic partnership with Oulu University Hospital, and as an accountable business partner, we can optimally help them realize their vision of the future of healthcare.
“Using our expertise in cardiovascular care, our goal is to help clinicians treat their patients better by innovating existing image-guided therapy procedures and making entirely new ones possible.”
“As a result of this agreement, Oulu University Hospital’s physicians will be able to provide their patients with the most advanced innovations for the treatment of cardiac and vascular disease.”
Oulu University Hospital heart center head Dr Kari Ylitalo said: “It’s our aim to build the smartest hospital in the world, capable of meeting the challenges of future specialized care and ensuring the best possible treatments for the people we serve in Northern Finland.
“We believe this long-term partnership with Philips, which provides us with the latest health technology innovations and services, helps us to meet this commitment.”
