Philips partners with Carilion to enhance cardiovascular care in Virginia

NETHERLANDS—Royal Philips, a global leader in health technology, has collaborated with Carilion Clinic, a Virginia-based not-for-profit healthcare organisation, to offer cutting-edge cardiovascular care solutions to Carilion’s new Cardiovascular Institute at Crystal Spring Tower.

As part of the agreement, Carilion will implement Philips’ full cardiovascular care ecosystem, which is expected to improve the region’s cardiovascular treatment standards.

The new Crystal Spring Tower facility will have 11 specialised Philips interventional rooms, which will allow physicians to handle complex cardiovascular diseases more effectively and be close to patients’ residences.

This strategic investment demonstrates Carilion’s commitment to providing cutting-edge technology to its clinicians and improving its cardiovascular service line’s clinical, operational, and overall performance.

Carilion’s vast network, which includes hospitals, primary and speciality physician practices, and various additional services, is known for providing high-quality, patient-focused care.

The flagship facility, Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, has 718 beds and will eventually house the Carilion Clinic Cardiovascular Institute.

This move will enable the institute to provide the region with cutting-edge cardiac, lung, and vascular services.

Critical services include inpatient nursing care, cardiovascular surgery rooms, cardiac catheterisation, and electrophysiology laboratories.

In addition, Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital is the primary referral centre and the sole Level 1 Trauma Centre in Southwest Virginia.

It also has the only hybrid operating rooms in the area, making it an essential facility for specialised medical care.

With the integration of Philips’ latest technologies, Carilion’s highly qualified medical personnel will be better prepared to manage complex situations and procedures that are not available at nearby healthcare facilities.

Marguerite Underwood, Vice President of the Carilion Clinic Cardiovascular Institute, emphasised the organization’s dedication to improving community health.

She emphasised that collaboration with Philips is critical to achieve this aim, ensuring that Carilion sets the standard in cardiovascular care both now and in the future.

The new labs will be the foundation of Philips’ integrated cardiovascular care ecosystem, featuring the Philips Azurion Image-Guided Therapy System, the EPIQ CVx cardiology ultrasound system with AI-enabled ultrasound capabilities, and IntraSight with SyncVision for IVUS imaging and physiology.

This sophisticated technology will provide superior imaging with lower X-ray doses, better workflow, and shorter turnaround times, boosting clinical trust.

Furthermore, a dedicated service program would facilitate maintenance and keep systems up to speed with the latest software improvements.

Carilion will also benefit from continued clinical education to improve its staff’s experience and patient care capabilities.

According to Jeff DiLullo, Chief Region Leader of Philips North America, Carilion has long been recognised for providing superior cardiac care.

He noted that maintaining this high standard of care necessitates ongoing growth and innovation.

The Crystal Spring Tower addition would allow clinicians to access world-class technology and provide an unrivalled level of care in the region.
