This state-of-the-art facility, developed in collaboration with AMSA Renal Health Care, now allows residents of La Digue to receive essential dialysis treatments close to home.
SEYCHELLES – President Wavel Ramkalawan has officially inaugurated the new haemodialysis unit at St. Mary’s Hospital on La Digue, marking a major milestone for the country’s healthcare system.
This state-of-the-art facility, developed in collaboration with AMSA Renal Health Care, now allows residents of La Digue to receive essential dialysis treatments close to home.
Previously, patients had to endure frequent and often exhausting journeys between islands to access these life-saving services, but now, their care is available locally, significantly reducing both travel time and associated hardships.
During the opening ceremony, President Ramkalawan emphasized his administration’s ongoing commitment to making quality healthcare accessible to every Seychellois, regardless of where they live.
He highlighted that the new unit is not just a medical facility, but a symbol of restored dignity and hope for the La Digue community.
According to the President, this initiative fulfills a promise made in his 2025 State of the Nation Address, where he identified the establishment of dialysis services on La Digue as a top healthcare priority.
The event was attended by local residents, healthcare professionals, and representatives from AMSA Renal Health Care.
One of the patients, Bernada Jean, expressed her gratitude in a moving speech, thanking the President, the Ministry of Health, AMSA Renal Health Care, and all medical staff involved in the project.
She shared that the new unit brings hope and relief to patients, giving them back precious time with their families and easing the emotional and physical burden of long-distance travel for treatment.
The Ministry of Health has reaffirmed its dedication to ensuring the quality and sustainability of the new service.
This will be achieved through ongoing collaboration with AMSA Renal Health Care, which is recognized for its expertise in providing advanced renal care and support.
The partnership aims to maintain high standards in patient care and ensure that the facility continues to meet the needs of the La Digue community.
