Prince Faisal launches US$1.87B healthcare overhaul in Riyadh

SAUDI ARABIA— Prince Faisal bin Bandar, the Emir of Riyadh, has officially launched 28 healthcare projects throughout the city, focusing on government, private, and non-profit sectors.

With a total investment exceeding SR7 billion (US$1.87 billion), these initiatives are designed to enhance healthcare infrastructure and will collectively provide more than 3,000 new beds for patients.

Among these projects, significant investments are allocated to Riyadh’s three health clusters.

The first cluster alone encompasses nine major developments valued at over SR1.8 billion (US$480 million).

Highlights include a 500-bed Women’s, Maternity, and Children’s Hospital at King Saud Medical City, a 200-bed medical tower at King Salman Hospital, and a similar facility at Al-Iman Hospital.

The cluster also includes a 30-bed kidney care unit in Al-Aflaj and four primary healthcare centers located in neighborhoods such as Al-Hazm and Badr.

Additionally, the Al-Qassim Charitable Complex for Hemodialysis and Dentistry stands out, featuring 22 dental clinics and 15 hemodialysis chairs.

The expansion of Tamir Hospital is notable, supported by the Ibrahim Al Sultan Charitable Foundation (30 beds), and a health center in Rawdat Sudair, backed by the Al-Babtain Charitable Foundation.

The third health cluster introduces nine new projects, including the 300-bed Diriyah General Hospital and specialized centers for dental care and rehabilitation funded by Abdul Moneim Al Rashid.

Other facilities include an endoscopy department at Al-Dawadmi Hospital and upgraded emergency departments at Shaqra and Thadiq hospitals.

In the private sector, Prince Faisal inaugurated eight projects valued at over SR5 billion (US$1.33 billion).

These include the 343-bed hospital operated by Madida Medical Care Company, along with smaller facilities such as the 30-bed Riyadh Medical Hospital and the 20-bed Arteh Specialized Hospital.

Health Minister Fahd Al-Jalajel highlighted that these projects are in line with Saudi Vision 2030, emphasizing the importance of fostering public-private partnerships to drive innovation, embrace smart technologies, and attract investments in medical research.

He mentioned that integrating the efforts of public, private, and non-profit sectors will substantially improve healthcare quality while establishing a sustainable health ecosystem.

These initiatives form part of Saudi Arabia’s broader Health Sector Transformation Program under Vision 2030.

The program seeks to create an innovative healthcare environment that ensures accessible, high-quality services for all citizens and residents by enhancing infrastructure and encouraging investments.
