QATAR – Uber and Qatar Cancer Society (QCS) have forged a strategic partnership to help the latter’s cancer patients access free transportation to and from treatment facilities in Qatar.
The meaningful collaboration christened ‘Trip to Recovery’ aims to avail access to free treatment-related transportation for people battling cancer while offering a flexible option to access vital healthcare services.
“Our mission seeks to prevent cancer and control its burden in Qatar by working with our partners to educate the community, support, empower, and advocate for individuals living with cancer,” Mrs. Mona Ashkanani, Director General of Qatar Cancer Society, said in an official note.
Under the new initiative, Uber will subsidize the cost of two trips of QCS’s cancer patients to and from the National Center for Cancer Care and Research (NCCCR) at Hamad Medical Corporation.
The collaborative project will also subsidize the cost of two trips of QCS’s cancer patients to and from the Pediatric Oncology and Hematology division at Sidra Hospital.
Moreover, the joint campaign will build on the Society’s efforts to engage in professional development and scientific research in the field of cancer.
“Through this partnership, Uber has created a means to facilitate access to our medical facilities so our patients can receive their treatment with peace of mind,” Mrs. Mona Ashkanani, Director General of Qatar Cancer Society, said in an official note.
It is part of Uber’s global drive to partner with cities and communities and one of the many initiatives Uber has rolled out in Qatar to positively impact local communities by joining their cause.
The joint campaign with the Qatar Cancer Society is in line with Uber’s mission to create opportunity through movement. At its core, Uber is a platform that opens up the world to new possibilities.
QCS’s cancer patients will have access to the ridesharing app of choice, and ultimately, create opportunities for cancer support services.
“We believe such partnerships with private sector entities are integral to help elevate healthcare and facilitate the patient experience,” observed Mrs. Mona Ashkanani.
Mrs. Ashkanani affirmed the charity’s keenness to participate in all initiatives that serve its vision as the community partnership platform.
“In line with our commitment to creating a hassle-free experience for our patients, we will continue our fight against cancer and contribute to the health and wellness of the communities in Qatar,” underscored Mrs. Ashkanani.
Hopefully, the new joint campaign will pave the way for public-private partnerships aimed at developing similar joint initiatives to help create a hassle-free experience for patients.
The signing ceremony was presided over by Nasser Al-Sharshani, General Manager of Uber in Qatar, and Mrs. Mona Ashkanani, the Director General of Qatar Cancer Society.
Commenting on the ‘Trip to Recovery’ initiative, Nasser Al-Sharshani, General Manager of Uber Qatar, said: “Uber is always committed to being an active member in the communities where it operates.”
He outlined that Uber and Qatar Cancer Society will arrange free transportation for people with cancer traveling to selected treatment facilities in different parts of the Arabian state.
Ultimately, this strategic alliance will allow Uber and Qatar Cancer Society to support and empower the communities they serve in Qatar over the coming years.
Uber’s programs and initiatives are driven by its goals of creating lasting positive impacts and improving community mobility.
“Uber and QCS’s joint initiative seeks to address various challenges voiced regarding the ability of cancer patients to reach healthcare facilities while helping current patients have access to the care they need conveniently,” stated Nasser Al-Sharshani.
