QATAR – Qatar University (QU) and Doha-based pharmaceutical company Ebn Sina Medical Company have teamed up to enhance the competency of community pharmacists and future pharmacists.

The agreement sets a comprehensive framework for cooperation between QU and Ebn Sina Medical Company, aligning with both parties’ strategic missions.

It is a guide on how the two parties will conduct internship programmes, training initiatives, professional development, and recognition through excellence awards.

These awards will be conferred to outstanding pharmacy students who demonstrate exceptional academic performance, leadership qualities, and a commitment to advancing the field of pharmacy.

The agreement aligns with QU’s commitment to developing cutting-edge and contemporary approaches to addressing issues related to medication use optimisation, prescribing, de-prescribing, and medication safety.

The joint statement said: “The new university-industry collaboration marks a significant step forward in advancing the field of pharmacy and nurturing the next generation of pharmaceutical professionals.”

Through this new partnership, Ebn Sina Medical Company will empower pharmacy students with key practical skills and deep expertise needed to fill the gap between academic life and the labour market.

Ebn Sina Medical Company is a subsidiary of Aamal Company, which is one of the largest, most diversified companies in Qatar offering investors high-quality and balanced exposure to Qatar’s economic growth and development.

On the retail side, Ebn Sina has a network of pharmacies and health shops across Doha to offer customers state-of-the-art service in all aspects of general health and wellbeing.

It represents a considerable number of the world’s leading names in pharmaceuticals, as well as medical and scientific equipment and consumer health products.

Since the establishment of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Ebn Sina Medical Company has sponsored awards to recognise outstanding pharmacy students.

QU’s pharmacy students will now have access to internship opportunities along with training and professional development workshops at the Ebn Sina Medical Company.

The college is also studying the feasibility of hosting a Drug Information Center within its premises to train students and provide drug-related information and counseling to the general public.

Students will gain practical experience through seminars, workshops, and lectures, training courses targeting the Qatari community, exposure to real-world scenarios, and mentorship from seasoned professionals,” the institutions claimed.

The university–industry collaboration aims to foster academic excellence and provide enriching opportunities for pharmacy students enrolled at Qatar University.

Under this pact, Qatar University will serve as the educational arm of Ebn Sina Medical Company by organizing workshops and facilitating knowledge exchange between QU’s faculty members and the professional staff at the Doha-based company.

The agreement was signed by Dr. Feras Alali, Professor and Acting Dean of the College of Pharmacy at Qatar University, and Rashid Al Mansoori, Chief Executive Officer of Ebn Sina Medical Company.
