QATAR – Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) has introduced the Paxman Scalp Cooling System at its National Center for Cancer Care and Research (NCCCR) in Doha.
As the principal public healthcare provider in the State of Qatar, HMC has a long history of delivering the safest, most effective, and most compassionate care to every one of its patients.
HMC’s National Center for Cancer Care and Research has introduced the ultramodern scalp cooling treatment to support cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.
In a press release, the Medical Director of NCCCR, Dr. Mohammed Salim Al Hassan, said: “The Paxman scalp cooling technology is a breakthrough in cancer care that helps minimize hair loss during chemotherapy treatment.”
Backed by Sedeer Medical, HMC’s National Center for Cancer Care and Research has installed the Paxman Scalp Cooling System at its daycare unit in Doha.
The Paxman system consists of a compact refrigeration system unit with coolant that is circulated through specifically designed single-patient-use cooling caps.
The clinically-proven scalp cooling system helps tens of thousands of cancer patients in more than 60 countries worldwide to retain their hair during chemotherapy every year.
This system harnesses the power of advanced technologies to help combat hair loss and provide a much-needed boost to patients’ self-esteem during difficult times as they receive chemotherapy treatment.
“Paxman scalp cooling technology works by reducing the temperature of the scalp, which in turn reduces blood flow to the hair follicles. This process makes it more difficult for chemotherapy drugs to reach and damage the hair follicles, resulting in less hair loss,” explained Dr. Mohammed Salim Al Hassan.
As part of its ongoing efforts to provide the best possible healthcare to the people of Qatar, HMC’s NCCCR has now begun offering ultramodern cooling treatment to cancer patients.
The state-of-the-art system will empower specialists at the National Center for Cancer Care and Research to improve patient experiences and comfort as they undergo chemotherapy.
The world-leading hair loss prevention system for chemotherapy patients will also allow specialists to use cutting-edge technology to ensure the psychological well-being of cancer patients.
It is in line with the mission of NCCCR as a healthcare provider to bring the latest innovations in healthcare closer to the people of Qatar.
Commenting on the importance of this innovative technology, Dr. Mohammed Salim Al Hassan, said: “NCCCR is prioritizing patients’ physical well-being and addressing their emotional and psychological needs.”
He underscored that the Paxman Scalp Cooling System is the world-leading hair loss prevention system for chemotherapy patients.
“This cutting-edge technology is valuable to NCCCR’s advanced treatment options, further establishing its position as a leading cancer care center globally,” underscored the Medical Director of NCCCR.
Dr. Al Hassan further pointed out that the newly launched Paxman scalp cooling technology is effective in clinical trials, with over 50% of patients experiencing minimal to no hair loss during chemotherapy.
Moreover, the installation of the Paxman System at HMC’s NCCCR will help to increase the number of cancer survivors, improve survival rates and prognosis for cancers, and promote better health outcomes.
In similar news, the Qatar Cancer Society (QCS) has concluded its month-long “I am a survivor, and I will inspire you with my story” campaign to support, empower and advocate for people living with cancer.
