QATAR – Qatar has successfully hosted the inaugural Stem Cell Transplantation Conference at Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) headquarters in Doha.
This comes as the Hamad Medical Corporation, the principal public healthcare provider in Qatar, is set to implement an evidence-based approach designed to promote age-friendly care in the state.
Led by HMC, the first-of-its-kind congress marked a significant step forward in the field of stem cell transplantation and its application to clinical medicine in the Middle East.
The first-ever Qatar Stem Cell Transplantation Conference brought together renowned scientists, clinicians, and researchers from around the world dealing with the complex medical procedure.
It was a unique opportunity for the regional and international experts to share their knowledge and experiences around the latest advancements in the field of stem cell transplantation.
Additionally, several medical experts delivered industry briefings on the use of autologous and allogeneic hematopoietic stem cells in the treatment of hematological malignancies.
The notable speakers include Dr. Javid Gaziev, Chairman of Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplantation (BMT) and BMT Programme Director at HMC, and Dr. Anas Hamad, Co-Chairman of Organising and Scientific Committee and Director of the Pharmacy Department at HMC.
Professor Leo Luznik from the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Centre at John Hopkins in the United States, and Professor Andrea Bacigalupo from the Catholic University in Rome, also delivered comprehensive educational lectures at the event.
The two-day conference, which was held from 10th March to 12th March 2023, saw the participation of more than 300 attendees who engaged in a range of interactive sessions, including plenary talks, panel discussions, and workshops.
Participants also gained insights into the ethical considerations surrounding stem cell research as it is paving the way for translational research in regenerative medicine to develop cures for all.
Qatar’s inaugural Stem Cell Transplantation Conference served as an excellent opportunity for speakers to highlight the importance of stem cell research in advancing medicine.
All research projects conducted in Qatar proposing the use of stem cells must abide by the Ministry of Public Health’s guidance for research involving human stem cells, germ cells, and cells obtained from cord blood.
Moreover, the first-of-its-kind meetup builds on Qatar’s commitment to becoming a leader in the field of stem cell transplantation.
This event follows the first edition of the Dubai Stem Cell Congress (DSCC), which featured keynote speeches from patients presenting success stories of their treatment journey.
Similarly, the Dubai Stem Cell Congress focused on the latest technologies related to stem cells and recent scientific findings in the field of regenerative medicine.
