NETHERLANDS – Royal Philips, a global leader in health technology, has announced the unveiling of its advanced 1.5T BlueSeal MRI scanner at the upcoming Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) Annual Meeting, scheduled for December 1–4, 2024, in Chicago, USA.

The new system combines cutting-edge technology with sustainable design, aiming to improve diagnostic outcomes while addressing healthcare efficiency and environmental concerns.

The latest BlueSeal MRI features a wide-bore design, providing a 70 cm opening that enhances patient comfort.

Integrated with AI-powered Smart Workflow solutions, the scanner streamlines imaging processes, enabling faster patient throughput without sacrificing diagnostic accuracy.

This innovation meets the needs of busy healthcare facilities, where efficiency and reliability are paramount.

One standout feature is Philips’ unique Smart Reading technology, a cloud-based AI toolset that seamlessly integrates imaging and diagnostic reporting.

Developed in collaboration with icometrix (Belgium) for neurological disorders like Alzheimer’s and Multiple Sclerosis, and Quibim (Spain) for prostate cancer, this solution generates fully automated AI-based reports, offering clinicians precise and actionable insights.

The BlueSeal MRI also boasts eco-friendly helium-free operations, making it the lightest 1.5T MRI system with a 70 cm bore.

This design eliminates the need for helium refills and vent pipes, allowing flexible installations in locations with construction constraints.

The system is up to 1,700 kg lighter than traditional models, facilitating installations in challenging environments such as elevated floors.

Since its launch in 2018, over 1,500 BlueSeal systems have been deployed globally, including the world’s first helium-free mobile MRI units.

Dr. Loannis Panagiotelis, Global Business Leader for MRI at Philips, highlighted the scanner’s fully integrated AI capabilities, which optimize every step of the MRI workflow, from patient setup to advanced diagnostics and reporting.

“This innovation reflects our commitment to expanding access to high-quality MRI imaging across diverse settings,” he remarked.

The system’s Smart Workflow solutions include SmartExam, which automates up to 80% of MRI exam procedures, ensuring consistency and reducing complexity.

Additionally, features like SmartFit coils enhance patient comfort and ease of use, while SmartSpeed technology enables higher-resolution imaging up to 65% faster.

SmartQuant further accelerates diagnostics by producing detailed images of various anatomies in record time.

Philips’ helium-saving design has prevented the use of nearly 2.75 million liters of helium and saved 40 mWh of energy annually.

This aligns with the company’s goal of reducing healthcare’s environmental impact while lowering operational costs for healthcare providers.

Visitors can explore the next-generation BlueSeal MRI scanner at the Philips booth (#6730) during RSNA 2024.
