UAE – Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City (SSMC) has officially opened its new Anatomical Pathology Laboratory within its premises in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
This news comes as Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City launched its novel diagnostic testing method for detecting leukemia in the United Arab Emirates.
SSMC has scaled up diagnostic capacity at the tertiary hospital with its new laboratory focusing on anatomical pathology, including how a specific disease affects the structure of body organs.
In her address, Dr. Rawia Mubarak Mohamed, Consultant Anatomical Pathologist at SSMC, said: “Pathologists play a critical role in interpreting and communicating diagnostic results to clinicians and patients.”
SSMC’s latest Anatomical Pathology Laboratory is fully equipped with artificial intelligence-powered equipment to enhance accurate, timely, and patient-centered disease diagnostics in the UAE.
As a result, the highly-modern lab housed within SSMC will offer top-notch surgical pathology services and cytopathology services to provide evidence-based information to both clinicians and patients.
The Anatomical Pathology Laboratory also features an advanced digital pathology system designed to equip pathologists with the competencies required to generate high-resolution, whole-slide images of samples.
Through this digital pathology system, SSMC’s expert-led pathology team and physicians will work closely to customize effective treatment plans, enhance patient experience and save lives.
SSM’s new path lab is uniquely designed to view and analyze medical samples digitally, bringing an integrated, transformative patient-centered care and treatment approach.
Pathologists will use AI-powered tools in the dissection and evaluation of specimens, along with the examination of single cells or small groups of cells from scrapings or aspiration of fluid or tissue under the microscope.
“The journey of a specimen in an anatomical pathology laboratory involves a series of critical steps that require specialized knowledge, skills, and equipment,” stated Dr. Rawia Mubarak Mohamed.
Moreover, SSMC’s pathology team will leverage the power of AI-powered tools and applications to promote the early detection of diseases and complex conditions and ensure diagnostic accuracy.
The expert-led pathology team will harness the power of technology to identify and trace abnormalities in individuals, and, in turn, help them begin effective treatments and timely medical interventions.
Ultimately, SSMC’s pathologists will provide accurate, specific, and sufficiently comprehensive diagnostic results to clinicians who will develop an optimal patient-centric treatment plan to improve health outcomes.
It is part of Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City’s overall goal of utilizing the latest innovations and technologies to deliver better care that caters to the needs of patients residing in Abu Dhabi and beyond.
Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City is a joint-venture partnership between Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA) and Mayo Clinic aimed at elevating the provision of health care services in the UAE.
In similar developments, Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC), Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, and Tawam Hospital recently received institutional accreditation from the Royal College Canada International.
