Sidra Medicine celebrates seven years of advancing Medical Education in Qatar

QATAR—Sidra Medicine, a member of Qatar Foundation, has announced that it has made significant strides in medical education since opening its doors in 2018.

Over the past seven years, the institution has established itself as a leading center for medical training, research, and global collaboration.

Through its pioneering residency and fellowship programs, internationally recognized conferences, and commitment to developing future healthcare professionals, Sidra Medicine continues to transform Qatar’s medical landscape.

Prof. Ibrahim Janahi, Acting Chief Medical Officer and Chair of Medical Education at Sidra Medicine, reflected on this journey, emphasizing the institution’s goal of becoming one of the world’s top academic medical centers.

He expressed pride in the progress made, highlighting the crucial role Sidra Medicine plays in training the next generation of healthcare and research professionals.

One of the key aspects of Sidra Medicine’s success is its dedication to continuous learning and professional development.

The Medical Education Department aims to set the highest standards in training, offering a diverse range of educational opportunities.

These include workshops, medical simulations, symposia, grand rounds, journal clubs, and blended online learning modules.

Each year, the institution conducts thousands of educational sessions, accumulating over 10,000 credit hours.

By fostering knowledge-sharing and advancing medical education, Sidra Medicine is shaping the future of healthcare while addressing the specific needs of the Arab population.

Additionally, Sidra Medicine serves as a specialist teaching hospital, supporting medical students from institutions such as Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar, Qatar University Medical College, and Hamad Bin Khalifa University.

 Since 2018, more than 1,000 students have completed their clerkships at Sidra Medicine, while over 400 residents and fellows have graduated from its pediatric residency and fellowship programs.

These programs hold accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education – International (ACGMEI) and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, reinforcing the hospital’s reputation for excellence.

Beyond training, Sidra Medicine actively engages in research and global collaboration.

The hospital has forged partnerships with leading institutions, including the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and has positioned Qatar as a regional hub for medical and scientific conferences.

 Over the past decade, Sidra Medicine has hosted numerous events, attracting over 20,000 healthcare professionals and researchers.

 These gatherings have welcomed more than 1,000 international participants from 23 countries, enhancing knowledge exchange and strengthening global connections.

In 2024, Sidra Medicine introduced its innovative Introduction to Genomics (InGen) workshops, providing over 400 high school students with hands-on research experience.

Additionally, it hosted the 31st Annual Scientific Meeting of the Middle East Fertility Society (MEFS), the region’s largest organization dedicated to fertility care.

 A testament to its commitment to advancing pediatric surgical care, Sidra Medicine also hosted the 6th World Congress of the World Federation of Associations of Pediatric Surgeons (WOFAPS) in 2019, an event that attracted over 800 surgeons from 80 countries—the first of its kind in the Middle East.

Sidra Medicine’s annual conferences, such as the Precision Medicine and the Future of Genomics Summit (PMFG) and the Pediatric Neuroscience Conference (PNC), have become signature events, drawing experts from across the Middle East and beyond.

 Its upcoming Gulf Pediatric Critical Care Conference (GPCCC), set for January 23–26, 2024, marks another milestone.

As the first of its kind in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region, it underscores Sidra Medicine’s commitment to providing cutting-edge medical education and training.

With its continued focus on medical education, professional development, and research excellence, Sidra Medicine remains at the forefront of healthcare innovation in Qatar and beyond.
