USA – German medtech company Siemens Healthineers has announced that it will expend US$32 million in a bid to expand 29,000-square-foot facility based in Newark’s Glasgow Business Community hub.

The company plans to use the money to install new manufacturing equipment, including large-scale specialties and formulation process equipment.

Supporting the company’s plans, the state Council on Development Finance will provide it with two grants from the Delaware Strategic Fund totaling US$ 2 million.

The company is one of Delaware county’s largest private employers and taxpayer. With1,300 employees on full-time basis, there are approximately 500 people working in manufacturing and technical positions such as operators, technicians, chemists, and engineers.

Many of the company’s employees have been with the company for decades, indicating the company’s low turnover rate, which is good for production consistency.

The company specializes in the production of medical imaging devices, laboratory diagnostics, and healthcare information technology in Delaware’s medical technology industry, which also includes Agilent Technologies and TA Instruments.

Speaking about this investment move, Governor John Carney said, “Delaware is a great place for innovative manufacturing companies like Siemens Healthineers to grow their operations. “We are pleased Siemens Healthineers will be making a significant investment in our state to enhance and expand their manufacturing facility, which will keep good-paying jobs here in Delaware.”

According to a news release, the expansion will ramp up the facility’s internal production capacity to manufacture up to 20 new in vitro diagnostic assays and associated calibrator products daily.

According to company executives, the expansion will allow Siemens to reduce production outsourcing and keep well-paying jobs in Newark. As a member of the Delaware BioScience Association, it will continue to collaborate with the University of Delaware on internships and scholarships for medical technology students.

Siemens Healthineers is also active in the community, regularly participating in local Juvenile Diabetes Association and American Heart Association fundraisers, among other things.

The delivery of healthcare is evolving all over the world, including here in the United States. Expanding our operations in Delaware will allow us to better serve our customers and ultimately the patients they serve,” said Deepak Nath, president of laboratory diagnostics for Siemens Healthineers.
