UAE – A new state-of-the-art plant Research Institute has officially opened at Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi in the capital city of the United Arab Emirates.
Established in 2006, Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi is a French and English-speaking higher education institution affiliated with the French Sorbonne University in the United Arab Emirates.
Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi has launched its new state-of-the-art Research Institute to enhance scientific development, foster innovation, and strengthen collaboration in research activities.
In a press release, the Abu Dhabi-based university stated: “This Research Institute is a pioneering initiative aimed at formalizing and structuring research activities while fostering collaboration and attracting international researchers.”
The new institute houses four research centers spanning a wide array of functional agendas, including Artificial Intelligence, Gulf Studies, Heritage Studies, and Environmental Studies.
The Research Institute at Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi has been established with a clear vision to advance academic excellence, strengthen research capabilities, and contribute to the development of the United Arab Emirates.
It marks a significant step forward in consolidating efforts of research activities conducted at the Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi to benefit the local, regional, and global community.
“Each center has a range of research activities that aim to develop and explore topics related to their respective areas,” said Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi.
Research activities at Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi will be conducted through the Research Institute, which is tightly integrated with Sorbonne University Paris Research Institutes.
Moreover, the Research Institute at Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi will utilize the areas of excellence of Sorbonne University in Paris and the expertise of the research professors based in Abu Dhabi.
This advanced institute will leverage Sorbonne University’s network and resources to help address tough, pressing topics of great significance to the local and regional context.
“By consolidating research efforts, Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi’s new research institute aims to enhance collaboration, encourage interdisciplinary studies, and attract top-notch international researchers, faculty, and students,” the institution said in a press release.
The official inauguration of Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi’s new research facility was well-attended by esteemed dignitaries.
Prof. Guillaume Fiquet, Vice President for International Relations, and Territorial and Socio-Economic Partnerships at Sorbonne University, and Prof. Silvia Serrano, Vice Chancellor of Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, participated in the launching ceremony.
Christopher Cripps, Senior Advisor for Global Engagement & Diplomatic Affairs for the President’s Office at Sorbonne University also attended the unveiling ceremony as an honored guest.
During the inauguration ceremony, Prof. Silvia Serrano, Vice Chancellor of Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, said: “The launch of the Research Institute at Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi marks a significant milestone in enhancing research projects in line with the ‘The UAE 2031′ vision.”
She underscored that this initiative is anticipated to stimulate collaborative research endeavors, attract brilliant minds, and propel the development of research in the region, aligning with the UAE’s strategic goals.
She further said that the new institute will serve as a hub for collaboration, noting that it will enable local and global researchers to work together and make significant contributions to academic and societal progress.
“By establishing the Research Institute, Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi demonstrates its dedication to fostering a vibrant research ecosystem that drives innovation and knowledge creation,” outlined Prof. Silvia Serrano.
