Syntegon unveils high-speed MLD advanced syringe filler

GERMANY—Syntegon, a leading partner for the pharmaceutical and food industries, has unveiled its latest innovation: the MLD Advanced filling machine for ready-to-use (RTU) nested syringes.

This cutting-edge technology was introduced during a virtual presentation at Interphex 2025 and is designed to meet pharmaceutical manufacturers’ growing demands for high-speed production with 100% in-process control (IPC).

The MLD Advanced builds on Syntegon’s established MLD platform, which was previously tailored for cartridges and vials.

 The machine ensures optimal precision for high-value medicines by integrating advanced syringe-filling technologies.

Markus Burkert, Product Manager at Syntegon, emphasized the importance of minimizing product loss, stating, “Especially with high-value medicines, it is essential that each drop is filled and weighed optimally.”

When transferring syringes into the filling area, the machine leverages no-touch transfer methods to maintain aseptic conditions.

A standout feature of the MLD Advanced is its Pharma Handling Unit, which automatically denests syringes without glass-to-glass contact.

 This unit carefully places containers into a pitch adjustment station before transferring them to the machine’s transport clips.

Burkert highlighted the unique clip system adopted from cartridge lines, which ensures smooth transportation and is ideal for RTU syringes, vials, and cartridges.

The process begins with weighing empty syringes using IPC to ensure precision. After this step, syringes are filled and stoppered using proven technologies from Syntegon’s FXS series.

The system allows flexible redosing if necessary and provides documented proof of each container’s weight—a key feature that assures manufacturers of consistent quality.

Klaus Ullherr, Senior Product Manager at Syntegon, explained that this documentation gives manufacturers confidence that all containers are filled correctly.

Once stoppered via vacuum or vent tube insertion, the containers are gently returned to their nests by the circulating transport system.

 This seamless process guarantees safe handling and efficient filling of pre-sterilized syringes.

Ullherr noted that Syntegon’s integration of proven technologies ensures reliability while reducing risks associated with new equipment.

The MLD Advanced delivers impressive performance with an output of up to 400 syringes per minute.
