EGYPT – Takeda Egypt, in partnership with the Egypt Healthcare Authority, has announced significant progress in establishing an Integrated Practice Unit (IPU) for oncology care.
This announcement, made during the 5th Annual Egypt Healthcare Authority Forum in the New Administrative Capital, follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in March 2024.
The MoU laid the foundation for a strategic partnership aimed at improving healthcare services for cancer patients in Egypt.
At the forum, the achievements of this collaboration were highlighted, and Dr. Samy Khalil, General Manager of Takeda Egypt, was recognized for his contributions to enhancing the country’s healthcare system.
The IPU, a multidisciplinary team following international standards, is designed to provide comprehensive cancer care under unified management.
It will evaluate both patient outcomes and costs while sharing responsibility for delivering high-quality care. This initiative is expected to serve as a model for similar units across Egypt’s healthcare facilities.
The IPU also places a strong emphasis on training healthcare professionals, ensuring they are equipped to deliver specialized and effective care.
This effort is aligned with Egypt’s Vision 2030, which seeks to advance healthcare infrastructure and services.
During the forum, Ahmed El-Sobky, Chairperson of the Egypt Healthcare Authority, emphasized the significance of the IPU as a groundbreaking public-private partnership.
He noted that the unit offers a sustainable and scalable approach to cancer care while strengthening the healthcare sector’s overall capabilities.
The event also featured a discussion on the recent visit by representatives from The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, one of the UK’s leading cancer hospitals.
As part of their collaboration with Egypt, experts from the trust conducted a three-day workshop at the Ismailia Medical Complex, managed by the Egypt Healthcare Authority.
This workshop, involving 14 international specialists, provided in-depth training for Egyptian healthcare professionals.
Professor Mark Saunders, a Consultant Clinical Oncologist at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, expressed optimism about the collaboration.
He praised the commitment of Egyptian healthcare providers to delivering patient-centered care and hoped the initiative would elevate cancer treatment nationwide.
Dr. Khalil echoed this sentiment, highlighting Takeda Egypt’s commitment to fostering innovation and supporting public health.
He acknowledged Stellar Consulting Solutions for their vital role in the project’s success and reiterated Takeda’s dedication to driving sustainable improvements in Egypt’s healthcare sector.
Through partnerships like these, Egypt is making strides in transforming its healthcare system, offering hope for better outcomes for cancer patients across the nation.
