UAE – The United Arab Emirates’ first integrated cerebral palsy clinic has opened at the Medcare Orthopaedics & Spine Hospital (MOSH) in Dubai.
The Medcare Orthopaedics and Spine Hospital has introduced its specialised clinic to provide multidisciplinary care to patients with cerebral palsy and to help them effectively manage their condition.
Cerebral palsy is a group of disorders affecting a person’s movement and posture, caused by an injury to the brain before, during, or after birth.
In a press release, MOSH said: “The cause of Cerebral palsy and its effect varies from patient to patient, therefore, necessitating a fully customised approach in management.”
The Medcare Cerebral Palsy Clinic in the UAE will focus on providing patients with better quality of life in the easiest way possible through a unique medical program.
The specialised clinic will provide patient-centered care and its care teams will help monitor common conditions related to Cerebral Palsy including intellectual disabilities and epilepsy.
Diagnosis and management of cerebral palsy requires a multidisciplinary approach as the condition affects the patient’s movement, balance, and coordination, and each person can have different comorbidities.
“The Medcare Cerebral Palsy Clinic will open its doors to patients on the second Monday of each month from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM, where patients can access various specialities in one place at the same time,” stated MOSH.
The Medcare Cerebral Palsy Clinic has specialists and super specialists in various medical fields including paediatric neurologists, neurosurgeons, paediatric orthopaedic & spine surgeons, and expert physiotherapists.
The UAE-based clinic will allow parents to book an appointment for their child for an interdisciplinary consultation involving multiple paediatric specialists to address the challenges of cerebral palsy.
Its experts will gather together and discuss specific cases to cumulatively design the best surgical or non-invasive management plans that focus on enhancing the quality of life of children with cerebral palsy.
Cerebral Palsy has an incidence of about 2 to 2.5 children per 1,000 live births resulting in approximately 17 million people living with this debilitating condition worldwide.
While Cerebral palsy is a lifelong disorder that currently has no cure, an integrative and holistic approach to managing the issues can help those struggling with the neurological disorder.
During the inauguration ceremony, Dr. Rahul Deshmukh, Medical Director at Medcare Orthopaedic and Spine Hospital, said: “We launched this specialist clinic realising that better resources and healthcare infrastructure is needed in the UAE to address cerebral palsy cases.”
The clinic will empower patients and their families with the necessary tools and services to tackle cerebral palsy by offering proper intervention at the right time.
“At the Medcare Cerebral Palsy Clinic, we provide all cerebral palsy patients with integrative healthcare by experts from multiple disciplines at the same time, under one roof,” the Medical Director reassured the patients.
