UAE—Thumbay Pharmacy, in collaboration with the Modern Pharmaceutical Company (MPC) and the College of Pharmacy at Gulf Medical University, has unveiled a state-of-the-art medication counselling centre at Thumbay University Hospital, Al Jurf branch.

This new initiative aims to enhance patient care by providing tailored services prioritising medication management and overall well-being.

At this counselling centre, patients can consult with qualified clinical pharmacists who will offer expert guidance on various aspects of medication management, health, wellness, and lifestyle choices.

The introduction of innovative, patient-centered care strategies is a testament to the pharmacy’s commitment to significantly improving health outcomes for individuals seeking assistance.

Visitors to the medication counselling centre can expect comprehensive guidance on a range of pertinent topics.

These include the impact of medications on skin health, positive interactions between nutritional supplements and pharmaceuticals, and lifestyle modifications designed to prevent potential side effects.

Additionally, pharmacists will recommend appropriate products or supplements based on the individual needs discussed during these consultations.

This personalised approach fosters a deeper understanding of medication use and empowers patients to make informed decisions regarding their health.

In the UAE’s diverse demographic landscape, such counseling services are becoming increasingly vital, particularly for patients managing chronic conditions.

Those living with diabetes, hypertension, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, cardiovascular diseases, chronic kidney disease (CKD), and rheumatoid arthritis often face unique challenges in their health management.

The new center is expected to address these challenges by providing expert advice and support tailored to the specific needs of these patients.

Commenting on this significant collaboration, Dr. Samir Mahmoud, Director of the Patient and Customer Division at MPC, emphasized the common struggles individuals face in understanding their medications.

He highlighted the importance of adhering to prescribed regimens, noting that many patients, especially caregivers of sick or elderly family members, often require additional guidance on proper medication administration to ensure timely and safe treatment.

Recognizing these needs, the medication counseling center is dedicated to bridging the gaps in healthcare by maintaining close contact with patients and closely monitoring their conditions.

According to Dr. Mahmoud, this proactive approach enhances patient understanding and promotes better health outcomes across the community, aligning with the UAE’s commitment to improving healthcare accessibility and quality.

Meanwhile, Professor Hossam Hamdy, Chancellor of Gulf Medical University, underscored the transformative nature of the partnership between the College of Pharmacy, Thumbay Pharmacy, and MPC.

He remarked that this collaboration shifts pharmacists’ role from merely dispensing medication to becoming providers of comprehensive patient care.

By developing students alongside clinical pharmacists, the initiative fosters a collaborative approach that enhances the advisory services available to patients before, during, and after their prescriptions.

Professor Hamdy believes that this partnership significantly alters the dynamics of pharmacy education, ultimately leading to a higher quality of care for patients within the community.

With these concerted efforts, Thumbay Pharmacy, MPC, and Gulf Medical University are collectively working towards a healthier future for all UAE residents.
