UAE – The Thumbay University Hospitals Complex in Ajman has received institutional accreditation from the National Institute for Health Specialties (NIHS).

It is an affiliate of the academic hospital network of Thumbay Group, which has a professional workforce of 30 different nationalities serving patients in 50 different languages and serving patients from over 175 nationalities.

The Thumbay University Hospital Complex includes the 350-bed Thumbay University Hospital, Thumbay Dental Hospital, and Thumbay Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Hospital.

The UAE-based hospital group forms an integral part of the academic health system of the Gulf Medical University as it incubates an educational and research complex.

This complex was awarded institutional accreditation by the National Institute for Health Specialties after fulfilling a set of requirements in line with the latest international standards and practices.

The NHIS accreditation reaffirms that the medical care giant meets the highest global standards as a healthcare institution including its structure, processes, and outcomes.

Moreover, the Thumbay University Hospitals Complex becomes the first private academic hospital complex to obtain accreditation from NIHS.

The prestigious award builds on the group’s mission of providing exceptional healthcare to community members while achieving the country’s goal to become a global destination for medical tourism.

The handover over ceremony was officiated by HE. Dr. Mohammed Al Houqani, NIHS Secretary General, and Mr. Brian de Francesca, Executive Director of Thumbay University Hospitals Complex.

Commenting on the elevation, Dr. Mohammed Al Houqani praised the high leading quality of the healthcare services provided by the Thumbay University Hospitals Complex.

He observed that the hospital chain has state-of-the-art facilities that are characterized by an integrated academic health system across healthcare, education, and research sectors.

“Granting the accreditation certificate is an affirmation of the hospital group’s commitment to NIHS standards which have been designed and benchmarked for best practices in medical education,” stated Dr. Al Houqani.

Dr. Al Houqani emphasized NIHS’s keenness to strengthen the partnership between the private and public sectors, and to deepen the bonds of cooperation with representatives of health authorities.

He further outlined that the cross-sector collaboration will help to ensure the improvement of the quality of medical educational practices throughout the United Arab Emirates.

Moreover, the NHIS certification comes as the Thumbay Healthcare Division recently achieved JCI Enterprise Accreditation from the Joint Commission International.
