TUNISIA — The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) has successfully renovated and reopened the patient care ward at the Wassila Bourguiba Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital in Tunis.
This significant event was attended by numerous dignitaries, including the Turkish Ambassador to Tunisia, Ahmet Misbah Demircan; the Director of Public Health at the Tunisian Ministry of Health, Tarek Ben Nasr; TİKA’s Coordinator in Tunisia, Ali Fuat Cebeci; alongside other Tunisian officials and hospital staff.
During the opening ceremony, Ambassador Demircan expressed his satisfaction in contributing to a hospital dedicated primarily to the care of women and children.
He emphasized the importance of such initiatives in strengthening bilateral relations between Turkey and Tunisia, particularly in the healthcare sector.
Following the ceremony, Director Ben Nasr highlighted the project’s significance, noting its role in enhancing the relationship between the two nations in health-related fields.
He remarked that the renovated ward, equipped with modern medical facilities, will enable the hospital to deliver more efficient and healthier services.
The Wassila Bourguiba Maternity and Obstetrics Hospital, renowned as Tunisia’s first and largest maternity hospital, conducts approximately 20,000 examinations and 8,000 births annually.
Ali Fuat Cebeci, TİKA’s Coordinator in Tunisia, elaborated on the scope of the renovations, mentioning that a considerable portion of the hospital’s service rooms, including the ultrasound unit, had been upgraded.
He stressed that this project aims to increase the hospital’s capacity for patient care and ensure that patients receive comfortable and healthy treatment during their stay.
Cebeci also noted TİKA’s extensive involvement in Tunisia since 2012, having implemented nearly 250 development and technical cooperation projects across various sectors, such as administrative and civil infrastructure development, education, healthcare, culture, and agriculture.
He reiterated TİKA’s commitment to continuing these efforts, aiming to sustain and expand their impact on Tunisia’s healthcare system.
