Turkish doctors provide free dental care to thousands in Burundi

BURUNDI – A team of volunteer Turkish physicians has provided free dental treatment to over 5,000 Burundi patients, a remarkable display of international cooperation and humanitarian aid.

The initiative, organized by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) and the Association of the Friends of Africa (TADD), addressed the Burundian people’s pressing oral and dental health needs.

The Turkish medical team operated in Gitega and Bujumbura, offering free dental treatment to over 900 patients.

As part of the program, the doctors also distributed free toothbrushes and toothpaste to patients, particularly children, while providing valuable training on oral and dental care.

The program’s impact extended beyond just providing treatment, as it also served as a platform for knowledge sharing and capacity building.

Burundian dentists and nurses had the opportunity to enhance their experience and update their knowledge by participating in the activities conducted by the Turkish doctors.

At the program’s closing ceremony, a press conference was held with significant participation from the Burundian media, including the Burundian National Radio and Television (RTNB).

Aimable Nsindayikengera, the Coordinator of the Bonne Action Foundation, expressed his gratitude to TİKA, the Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye in Bujumbura, and TADD, emphasizing the substantial contribution the organization has made to the Burundian health system.

Nsindayikengera highlighted the importance of this initiative, particularly for impoverished individuals who would otherwise have no hope of receiving treatment.

The program’s success underscores the power of international cooperation and the transformative impact that humanitarian aid efforts can have.

The Turkish doctors’ commitment to providing free dental care to thousands of Burundians is a testament to their dedication and the strong ties between Turkey and Africa.

This initiative addresses an immediate health need and lays the foundation for long-term oral and dental health improvements in Burundi.
