UAE launches global hospitals initiative named Zayed Humanitarian Legacy

UAE—The United Arab Emirates has revealed a strategy to bridge significant healthcare gaps worldwide as part of the Zayed Humanitarian Legacy Initiative, which President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan announced in March of this year.

With a significant financial investment of approximately Dh550 million (US$149.74 million) over the next decade, the UAE Global Hospitals Program will oversee the construction of up to ten hospitals, each tailored to meet the specific healthcare needs of underserved communities, improving the health of those least likely to access medical care.

The first facility to be inaugurated will be the UAE-Indonesia Hospital for Cardiac Diseases, which is now under construction in Surakarta, Central Java.

The opening of this hospital, which is slated to be finished in the fourth quarter of 2024, will be a watershed moment in the UAE Global Hospitals Program, which the International Humanitarian and Philanthropic Council manages.

The program will deliver critical services to thousands of heart disease patients, highlighting the UAE’s long-standing commitment to global health fairness and international collaboration.

It is a huge investment in global health through the Zayed Humanitarian Legacy Initiative, which will help institutions and initiatives deliver aid, reduce inequality, and create sustainable development solutions.

In response to the initiative, Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chair of the International Humanitarian and Philanthropic Council, expressed their honor in renewing their commitment to the UAE’s long-standing mission of improving global health.

He emphasized that this endeavor is undertaken under the esteemed leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE.

According to Al Nahyan, this program will generate significant change over the next decade, demonstrating our commitment to supporting the disadvantaged and improving the well-being and dignity of communities worldwide.

Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State and Chair of the International Health Advisory Committee at the International Humanitarian and Philanthropic Council, emphasized that the newly established hospitals under this initiative will significantly bolster healthcare systems, enabling them to bridge critical health access gaps effectively.

Al Nahyan remarked that the UAE-Indonesia Hospital for Cardiac Diseases will provide specialized medical services and serve as a model for future projects under this program.

The UAE is regarded as one of the world’s most generous donor countries, carrying on the legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

According to the most recent data, the UAE has provided more than Dh320 billion (US$ 87.122 billion) in international assistance since its inception in 1971.

This dedication to global philanthropy is firmly ingrained in the UAE’s history and traditions, representing the country’s commitment to promoting international collaboration and unity.
