UAE Ministry of Health collaborates with WHO on Healthy Ageing Strategy Plan

UAE—The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP), in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), held a four-day workshop in Dubai to discuss the development of the National Framework for Healthy Ageing strategy.

This initiative aims to create a national response plan for dementia, which is a cornerstone of the UAE’s strategy to help older adults live healthy, independent lives.

The workshop brought together experts from various UAE health authorities and stakeholders to explore avenues for enhancing collaboration and developing actionable strategies to support senior citizens and residents.

The discussions were anchored on key metrics outlined in the WHO’s “Decade of Healthy Ageing” initiative. This 10-year program emphasizes enhancing access to healthcare for older individuals, promoting healthy habits, and fostering research and innovation in ageing.

Additionally, it aims to ensure social inclusion and improve the quality of life through integrated policies and programs.

According to the WHO, approximately 50 million people globally are currently living with dementia, a figure projected to triple by 2050.

Dr. Hussain Abdul Rahman Al Rand, Assistant Undersecretary for the Public Health Sector, attended the event and highlighted the UAE’s National Framework for Healthy Ageing.

He noted that this framework, which spans 2025 to 2030, includes several initiatives aimed at fostering an age-friendly environment in which older adults can lead healthy, active, and independent lives.

Moreover, it ensures they can contribute meaningfully to society, uphold their rights, and live with dignity and respect, establishing the UAE as a front-runner in promoting active and healthy aging.

Dr. Al Rand also mentioned that the UAE has long been a leader in this area, having implemented the National Policy for Senior Emiratis.

This policy ensures that seniors receive all necessary support to lead dignified lives, including therapeutic, rehabilitation, and social services.

Reflecting the deep-rooted values and culture of the Emirati people, the policy aims to instill these noble values in future generations.
