UAE – GluCare.Health, a hybrid digital therapeutics diabetes platform, has tied up with Irish firm Innovation Zed to accelerate innovation in diabetes care.
Under the exclusive agreement, Innovation Zed’s connected insulin pen technology will be integrated into GluCare.Health’s digital clinic ecosystem to help optimise diabetes management.
In his address, Dr. Ihsan Almarzooqi, Co-Founder and Managing Director of GluCare.Health, said: “This partnership is a significant step forward for GluCare.Health in our mission to close the loop for insulin-dependent diabetics and obtain new data points previously blind to healthcare providers.”
The strategic alliance builds on GluCare Health’s continuous and behavioral-change-based approach, which has shown to be vastly better than the episodic care practiced by traditional care providers.
“Along with our engagement and meta[bolic] scores, we will be able to bring personalized treatments and manage compliance under our clinic-in-the-cloud model for multi-dose insulin (MDI) patients,” noted Dr. Ihsan Almarzooqi.
Innovation Zed is a research and development (R&D) company specializing in the design, development, and manufacturing of innovative medical devices.
The Ireland-based company develops novel add-on technologies for drug delivery and enhanced therapy under the InsulCheck brand including the InsulCheck DOSE and InsulCheck CONNECT.
“The InsulCheck technologies available under the InsulCheck brand are smart add-on devices that can be connected to an app to auto log and store vital information and data regarding injection history for MDI (Multiple Daily Injection) users,” Innovation Zed said in an official statement.
The integration of the InsulCheck technologies will enable the users of GluCare.Health’s digital therapeutics diabetes platform to receive real-time information on insulin doses, temperature, and timings.
“The integration is anticipated to enable GluCare.Health to monitor insulin information with glucose and crucial data parameters and provide a more comprehensive picture of MDI patients’ health status and needs,” claimed Innovation Zed.
The integrated solution will ensure the accurate collection of valuable health data, including the timestamp of injection events, dosage, temperature, and user behaviour, to improve MDI patient’s compliance with injection therapy.
By motivating people to increase adherence to their daily injection schedule, this collaboration between GluCare.Health and Innovation Zed has the potential to improve therapy response and overall health outcomes.
It follows a growing trend in technology optimization partnerships involving GluCare.Health, such as UAE’s women’s healthcare platform Nabta Health pact with GluCare.Health to fight gestational diabetes.
GluCare.Health also collaborated with Fitbit for the integration of advanced health data sets from Fitbit wearables into the former’s clinical framework.
Additionally, GluCare.Health partnered with Middle East’s largest self-drive mobility, ekar, to provide the most convenient access to diabetes screening technology in Dubai.
The UAE-based health tech startup also tied up with global pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk to introduce a 150-patient weight management pilot programme to tackle chronic conditions.
Sanofi also signed a five-year agreement with DarioHealth, a digital health company. Following this agreement, Sanofi integrated its diabetes care product on Dario’s platform.
