KENYA – United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has strengthened it collaboration with the Ministry of Health of Kenya in the areas of family health and nutrition.

The Country Representative of UNICEF, Saheen Nilofer, met with Dr. Nakhumicha S. Wafula, the Cabinet Secretary for Health in Kenya, to discuss UNICEF’s assistance to the Ministry of Health.

The meeting aimed to strengthen collaboration between UNICEF and the Ministry in enhancing the dissemination of strategic plans.

UNICEF has been aiding the Ministry of Health with policy and strategy development, healthcare worker training, and technical support for program implementation. Focus areas include neonatal and child health, community case management, and nutrition.

This support has been particularly focused on the Division of Neonatal and Child Health, Integrated Community Case Management Program, and Division of Nutrition and Dietetics.

During the meeting, the Cabinet Secretary emphasized the need for continued collaboration between UNICEF and the Ministry to ensure effective implementation of strategic plans.

The partnership between UNICEF and the Ministry of Health is crucial in addressing the challenges faced by families and communities in Kenya in terms of healthcare.

Through collaboration and support, UNICEF and the Ministry of Health are working towards a healthier future for families and communities in Kenya.

2017-2021 CBA meeting

Dr. Nakhumicha S. Wafula, hosted a high-level meeting on Human Resources for Health at the Ministry of Health headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya.

The meeting brought together various stakeholders in the healthcare sector to discuss issues affecting the sector.

The meeting focused on a number of important issues including the progress made so far in the implementation of the 2017-2021 Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBA) between the Ministry of Health and the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU), the placement of interns, the extension of contracts for healthcare workers engaged under the Universal Health Coverage program, and COVID-19 specialists.

The implementation of the 2017-2021 CBA has been a major issue for the KMPDU, with doctors threatening to go on strike over delays in its implementation.

The meeting provided an opportunity for all stakeholders to assess the progress made so far and identify areas that need improvement.

The meeting is a significant step towards improving the healthcare sector in Kenya, and the government’s commitment to this cause is commendable.
