EGYPT— Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Egypt’s Minister of Health and Population, has received an official certificate from Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO).
This certificate recognizes Egypt’s successful elimination of all local transmission of human malaria parasites within its borders.
The award was presented during the 78th World Health Assembly held in Geneva, Switzerland. It highlights Egypt’s dedicated national efforts to improve public health and meet global standards for disease eradication.
These efforts have been strongly supported by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, reflecting the country’s commitment at the highest levels of government.
According to Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, this certification is a clear sign of Egypt’s strong focus on health security.
It also confirms the effectiveness of the country’s science-based national strategy to fight infectious diseases.
This strategy includes a comprehensive disease surveillance system and access to high-quality healthcare services across the country.
Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar explained that Egypt has not reported any local malaria cases for many years.
This success is due to significant advances in prevention, early detection, and rapid response to any imported malaria cases.
The achievement is the result of close cooperation between the Ministry of Health and various national partners working together to keep the country malaria-free.
Furthermore, Dr. Abdel Ghaffar emphasized that this certification is not just a celebration but also a motivation to continue strengthening Egypt’s healthcare system.
This aligns with Egypt’s broader “Vision 2030” plan, which aims for sustainable development and improved health outcomes for all citizens.
The Ministry of Health remains committed to maintaining Egypt’s malaria-free status by continuing preventive measures and enhancing monitoring and response programs.
Malaria is a serious mosquito-borne disease that poses a major threat to global health.
Egypt’s success in eliminating local transmission demonstrates the country’s high level of public health vigilance and readiness to prevent the disease from returning.
This accomplishment sets an inspiring example for other nations working to combat malaria and protect their populations.
