NIGERIA — The healthcare landscape in West Africa has taken a major leap forward with the official opening of WHX Lagos and WHX Labs Lagos.
This exciting development marks a fresh chapter following the rebranding of two key regional events: Medic West Africa is now WHX Lagos, and Medlab West Africa has become WHX Labs Lagos.

The event’s opening ceremony featured prominent figures such as Hon. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, Nigeria’s Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare; Prof. Becaye Fall, Executive Director of Laboratories from Senegal’s Ministry of Health; Hon. Prof. Damphha Lamin, Permanent Secretary and Deputy Minister from Gambia; and H.E. Dr. Ahmed Hussen El-Sobky, Chairman of the Egypt Healthcare Authority.
This WHX Lagos 2025 edition hosts over 500 exhibitors from across Africa and beyond, showcasing their latest advancements in healthcare, including diagnostics, digital innovation, policy reform, and investment opportunities.
Leading global companies such as Siemens Healthineers, GE Healthcare, Roche, Uni-Medical, Crown Healthcare, and Dedalus are present, demonstrating cutting-edge technologies including advanced diagnostics, medical imaging, hospital information systems, and AI-powered healthcare solutions.
Their participation highlights a shared commitment to building more resilient and patient-centered healthcare systems throughout Africa.
The event’s opening ceremony featured prominent figures such as Hon. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, The event was officially opened by Dr. Ipalibo Harry Banigo, Chairman of the 10th Senate Committee on Health and Vice Chairwoman on Women’s Affairs.
In her opening remarks, she emphasized the critical role of public-private partnerships in creating sustainable healthcare systems for all Nigerians.
She also praised WHX for providing a platform that encourages impactful dialogue and investment opportunities essential for advancing healthcare in the region.
Day one featured dynamic conferences focusing on leadership and investment, hosted by partners like the Healthcare Federation of Nigeria (HFN) and the Private Sector Health Alliance of Nigeria (PSHAN).
Notably, WHX Lagos held its inaugural Ministerial Roundtable, bringing together West African ministers, senior policymakers, and industry leaders to align strategies, encourage innovation, and promote collaboration aimed at improving health outcomes across the region.
This historic meeting was followed by a private dinner reinforcing the collective dedication to a healthier future.
The HFN Healthcare Leadership Conference opened with sessions themed “Accelerating Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and Health Sovereignty: Scaling up Best Practices through Public-Private Integration.”
Dr. Njide Ndili, President of HFN, praised the event’s role in advancing Africa’s healthcare system through meaningful dialogue and innovative showcases.
Meanwhile, PSHAN’s conference, titled “The Creative Catalyst: Driving Sustainable Healthcare Solutions in West Africa,” gathered experts to explore how creative solutions can foster a more responsive and sustainable healthcare ecosystem.
WHX Labs Lagos, held alongside WHX Lagos, focused on diagnostics and laboratory systems. Interactive panels and presentations addressed infectious disease surveillance, strengthening lab infrastructure, and the critical role of diagnostics in achieving universal health coverage.
Speakers like Professor Christian Happi of Redeemer’s University and Dr. Donald Ofili, Director and Deputy Registrar of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria, highlighted the importance of continuous professional development, with five CPD credits offered to participants.
Together under one roof, WHX Lagos and WHX Labs Lagos created a vibrant environment for knowledge sharing and networking among healthcare providers, laboratory scientists, policymakers, investors, and innovators.
