France and its partners supported the construction and equipping of the clinic before handing it over to the Government of Liberia, the Ministry of Health, and the County Health Team.

LIBERIA—The Ministry of Health, in partnership with development organizations, has officially opened the newly constructed Koon’s Town Primary Health Care Clinic in Todee District, rural Montserrado County, to improve access to essential healthcare services for surrounding communities.
The opening ceremony brought together representatives from the World Health Organization (WHO), the French Development Agency, the Government of France, Action Against Hunger, county authorities, community and religious leaders, traditional midwives, healthcare workers, and residents.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Health Dr. Louise M. Kpoto thanked the Government of France, the French Development Agency, and Action Against Hunger for supporting Liberia’s healthcare system.
She also commended healthcare workers serving Koon’s Town and surrounding communities.
The Minister said the government would ensure that the clinic receives an ambulance. She noted that the government is procuring 15 ambulances as part of efforts to strengthen emergency medical services.
French support for health infrastructure
French Ambassador to Liberia Isabelle Le Guellec said the facility demonstrates France’s commitment to helping Liberia strengthen its national health system.
France and its partners supported the construction and equipping of the clinic before handing it over to the Government of Liberia, the Ministry of Health, and the County Health Team.
Le Guellec urged national and local authorities, healthcare workers, and community members to maintain the facility and ensure its continued delivery of quality care.
Action Against Hunger Country Director Sukhdev Sharma described the clinic as the result of collaboration among government institutions, development partners, healthcare workers, local leaders, and the community.
He thanked the French Development Agency and the Ministry of Health for their support throughout the project.
WHO and other participating partners also reaffirmed their commitment to working with the Ministry of Health to expand access to quality healthcare across Liberia.
Replacement of deteriorated facility
Action Against Hunger constructed the new clinic in partnership with the Government of France and the French Development Agency through the BEHOL Project.
The previous facility had deteriorated significantly and no longer met minimum standards for structural safety or effective service delivery.
Following an assessment by the Ministry of Health and its partners, authorities recommended replacing the outdated structure with a new Level 2 Primary Health Care facility to provide safer and more reliable services.
Koon’s Town Clinic was originally built in 2008 by the Liberia Agency for Community Empowerment as an emergency facility.
It serves 64 catchment communities and a population of 6,970 people, including 10 communities within a 5-kilometre radius and 54 located farther away.
The clinic provides reproductive, maternal, neonatal, and child health services, including antenatal care, labour and delivery, immunization, HIV counselling and testing, mental health support, and nutrition counselling.
The new facility includes medical equipment and furniture for essential service areas, including the Maternal and Child Health Unit.
It also has a 17.6-kilowatt solar power system, a waste management system, and other infrastructure designed to support safe and continuous healthcare delivery.
