Egypt partners with Philips to manufacture CT Scan machines locally

This approach will help ensure that the local manufacturing of diagnostic imaging equipment remains economically viable and financially sustainable over the coming years.

EGYPT—Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population has announced plans to conduct a comprehensive joint feasibility study with global healthcare technology leader Philips.

The collaboration aims to establish local manufacturing capabilities for CT scan machines within the country, marking a significant step toward strengthening Egypt’s domestic medical equipment industry.

Deputy Prime Minister for Human Development and Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar recently held discussions with Philips’ Regional Director for the Middle East, Turkey, and Africa.

The high-level meeting centered on advancing their existing cooperation strategy, with particular emphasis on localizing medical device production to reduce Egypt’s dependence on imported healthcare equipment.

Ministry Spokesperson Hossam Abdel Ghaffar provided details about the meeting, explaining that both parties focused their attention on developing long-term projects that would create sustainable growth within Egypt’s health sector.

The government and Philips agreed to construct a comprehensive business model built on precise data collection and analysis.

This approach will help ensure that the local manufacturing of diagnostic imaging equipment remains economically viable and financially sustainable over the coming years.

The discussions extended beyond manufacturing concerns to address the ongoing national initiative for stroke patient care.

Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar reviewed the results from the pilot phase of this program, which has been operating in select facilities across the country.

Following this assessment, the Minister instructed health officials to explore the possibility of expanding the stroke care initiative to include additional hospitals throughout Egypt.

This expansion would significantly improve the speed of diagnosis and enhance clinical outcomes for stroke patients across the nation.

Digital transformation emerged as another critical topic during the meeting between Egyptian officials and Philips representatives.

The two parties examined current progress in implementing advanced health information systems, with particular attention devoted to oncology services.

Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar stressed the vital importance of incorporating cutting-edge radiology technologies and modern diagnostic tools into Egypt’s national health infrastructure.

This integration will enable healthcare providers to offer more accurate diagnoses and deliver better treatment options to patients seeking cancer care and other medical services.
