Abbott partners with Google Health to bring AI-powered metabolic health insights to consumers

USA—Abbott has entered a multi-year partnership with Google Health to help people better understand and manage their metabolic health by combining continuous glucose monitoring technology with artificial intelligence (AI).

The collaboration brings together Abbott’s Lingo biowearable platform and Google’s AI and consumer technology to deliver more personalized health insights and encourage healthier daily habits.

The partnership aims to integrate glucose data into everyday wellness tracking, enabling users to see how lifestyle choices affect their metabolic health.

By making these insights more accessible and actionable, the companies hope to help people take a more proactive approach to preventing chronic diseases linked to poor metabolic health.

AI-driven health guidance

Under the agreement, glucose data collected through Abbott’s Lingo continuous glucose monitor (CGM) will be integrated into the Google Health app.

Users will be able to view glucose trends alongside other health and wellness metrics within a single platform, offering a broader understanding of how nutrition, exercise, sleep and stress influence overall well-being.

Google Health Coach will analyze these combined health insights to provide personalized recommendations tailored to each user.

The AI-powered guidance will focus on building sustainable habits related to diet, physical activity, recovery and sleep, helping individuals make informed lifestyle decisions in real time.

Google noted that access to Health Coach will require a Google Health Premium subscription, the Google Health app and an internet connection.

The AI-powered features are intended for wellness purposes rather than medical use and will initially be available on selected devices.

Expanding metabolic health research

In addition to consumer health tools, Abbott and Google Health plan to launch one of the largest real-world studies on metabolic health.

The research will combine continuous glucose readings with wearable device data, laboratory results and participant surveys to explore links between glucose levels, physical activity, sleep quality, well-being and long-term metabolic health.

The findings are expected to support the development of more personalized AI-driven health recommendations while advancing scientific understanding of metabolic health.

Addressing a growing health challenge

The partnership comes as metabolic health disorders continue to increase worldwide.

In the United States, more than 115 million adults are estimated to have prediabetes, with over two in five adults affected.

Around 80% of those living with the condition remain unaware of their status.

Poor metabolic health is also associated with a higher risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and certain cancers.

Abbott said Lingo is designed for adults aged 18 years and older who are not using insulin but want to better understand how food, movement and stress influence their glucose levels.

The company believes that small, science-based lifestyle adjustments supported by continuous glucose insights can lead to measurable improvements in overall health.

Lingo integrations with the Google Health app are expected to begin rolling out later this year.
