Pharco Pharmaceuticals launches “Vision for All” to combat glaucoma in Egypt

The program focuses on early detection of eye diseases, with particular emphasis on glaucoma, while also supporting medical outreach through specialized convoys deployed in underserved communities.

EGYPT—Pharco Pharmaceuticals has launched its “Vision for All” initiative to expand access to ophthalmic healthcare services across Egypt and the wider region.

The program focuses on early detection of eye diseases, with particular emphasis on glaucoma, while also supporting medical outreach through specialized convoys deployed in underserved communities.

Pharco integrates these efforts under the broader “Nour Einak” platform, which promotes structured early diagnosis and improved patient awareness.

Strategic partnerships to strengthen eye care services

On the sidelines of the launch, Pharco signed a cooperation protocol with the Egyptian Ophthalmological Society and the Egyptian Society for Glaucoma under the “Nour Einak” initiative.

The agreement supports glaucoma screening through intraocular pressure measurement services, expands public education on disease prevention, and strengthens referral pathways for vulnerable populations.

The signing brought together Dr. Sherine Helmy, Chairman of Pharco Pharmaceuticals, Professor Khaled Morad, President of the Egyptian Ophthalmological Society, and Professor Mostafa Nassar, President of the Egyptian Society for Glaucoma, alongside leading ophthalmology experts and institutional representatives.

Digital transformation and patient management systems

In addition, Pharco is advancing digital healthcare integration through the development of an electronic patient management ecosystem.

The system combines treatment reminders, digital medical records, and structured follow-up tools in coordination with medical authorities.

This approach aims to enhance clinical accuracy, improve continuity of care, and reinforce collaboration between pharmaceutical stakeholders and healthcare providers.

Recent industry momentum in Egypt’s digital health sector has further reinforced similar initiatives focused on improving chronic disease monitoring and patient adherence systems.

Manufacturing expansion and GMP-Compliant facility

The initiative coincides with the commissioning of a new ophthalmic eye drops production line at Pharco’s Amreya facility in Alexandria.

The facility was built in full compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards and meets both Egyptian Drug Authority and international regulatory requirements.

Total investment in the project exceeds EGP 500 million (US$10 million), including EGP 300 million (US$6 million) dedicated specifically to the production line.

Market demand and regional supply capacity

Pharco emphasized that the expansion responds to growing demand for ophthalmic treatments in Egypt and across the Middle East and Africa.

The market is estimated at over 100 million packs annually in Egypt alone, with approximately 16.7 million prescriptions and nearly one million patients living with glaucoma.

The new production line is designed to produce up to 20 million packs annually, covering about 19% of domestic demand and roughly 11% of regional demand, strengthening pharmaceutical accessibility and supply resilience across key therapeutic areas.
