The new sterile manufacturing plant will complement Bracco’s existing production operations in Europe, Asia and Canada, expanding its global manufacturing network.

USA – Bracco will invest US$230 million to build its first US manufacturing facility for injectable contrast media in Sanford, North Carolina, expanding domestic production capacity and strengthening supply chain resilience.
The diagnostic imaging company expects the project to create 200 jobs across manufacturing, engineering, technical operations, quality assurance, warehousing and administration.
The new sterile manufacturing plant will complement Bracco’s existing production operations in Europe, Asia and Canada, expanding its global manufacturing network.
The investment will also bring production closer to US hospitals and healthcare providers, supporting the supply of injectable contrast agents used in medical imaging procedures.
These products help clinicians visualise internal organs, blood vessels and tissues during diagnostic examinations.
“With additional sterile manufacturing capacity in the United States, Bracco will be better positioned to meet growing demand, respond to customer needs, and support reliable access to injectable contrast media used in diagnostic imaging,” the company said in a statement.
Expanding US manufacturing footprint
The new facility will strengthen Bracco’s presence in the United States, its largest market, while positioning the company to respond more directly to demand from hospitals and imaging centres.
Establishing domestic production could also help reduce reliance on international manufacturing and distribution networks, which remain exposed to logistics disruptions and supply constraints.
Bracco operates in a competitive diagnostic imaging market alongside established manufacturers such as GE HealthCare, Philips and United Imaging Healthcare, which have existing manufacturing operations and commercial networks in the United States.
The North Carolina investment will expand Bracco’s domestic production capabilities as demand for diagnostic imaging services continues to drive demand for contrast media.
The company selected Sanford because of its skilled workforce, established life sciences ecosystem and supportive environment for advanced manufacturing.
The facility is expected to draw employees from several technical and operational disciplines, creating opportunities in the region’s manufacturing and healthcare supply sectors.
Bringing production closer to patients
Fulvio Renoldi Bracco, vice chairperson and CEO of Bracco Imaging, said the investment reflects the company’s long-standing commitment to improving patient care and expanding its US operations.
He noted that the United States represents Bracco’s largest market and is home to many of the patients who rely on its products.
Manufacturing injectable contrast media in Sanford will bring production closer to American hospitals and patients while strengthening the resilience of its supply network.
The project forms part of Bracco’s broader manufacturing strategy to expand production capacity and support the availability of diagnostic imaging products across its key markets.
