Arna Pharma finalizes US joint venture with Slate Run to launch asthma diagnostic Aridol

USA—Arna Pharma and Slate Run Pharmaceuticals have officially completed a joint venture (JV) aimed at building a larger US-based specialty pharmaceutical company focused on branded medicines, 505(b)(2) products, and specialised generics.

The partnership marks a significant step for both companies, strengthening their positions in high-value therapeutic markets and accelerating the commercialisation of niche pharmaceutical products throughout the United States.

As part of the collaboration, the companies have also launched their first jointly developed branded product, Aridol, with additional products expected to enter the market in the coming years.

The JV combines Arna Pharma’s formulation development expertise and portfolio expansion strategy with Slate Run Pharmaceuticals’ established US commercial operations, regulatory capabilities, and supply chain infrastructure.

Expanding presence in the US pharmaceutical market

The newly formed company intends to scale the commercialisation of branded, specialised pharmaceutical products across the US market.

According to the companies, the partnership creates a stronger platform capable of accelerating physician engagement, reimbursement access, and regulatory execution while supporting long-term portfolio growth.

Arna Pharma senior vice-president Ram Iyer said the official launch of the partnership and introduction of Aridol represent an important milestone for both organisations.

He explained that combining Arna Pharma’s product development expertise with Slate Run’s commercial and operational infrastructure positions the JV to expand branded medicines and specialised generics in high-value therapeutic areas more efficiently.

Meanwhile, Michael Plessinger, chief executive officer of Slate Run Pharmaceuticals, said the partnership strengthens the company’s ability to execute larger commercial strategies while expanding its product pipeline.

He added that Aridol serves as the first step in building a broader portfolio of future pharmaceutical products for the US market.

Building on earlier strategic plans

The announcement follows an earlier memorandum of understanding signed by both companies in February 2026, when they first announced plans to establish a scaled-up US specialty pharmaceutical platform.

At the time, the firms highlighted their intention to focus on branded therapies, specialised generics, and 505(b)(2) medicines designed to address underserved therapeutic areas.

Founded in 2014, Slate Run Pharmaceuticals has developed a growing footprint in the US generic pharmaceutical market and currently markets more than 30 product families to wholesalers, distributors, pharmacies, and healthcare providers.

The company’s leadership team brings more than 200 years’ combined experience across regulatory affairs, quality management, supply chain operations, and commercialisation.

Arna Pharma, which launched its US operations in 2024, provides end-to-end pharmaceutical services, including formulation development and manufacturing, as well as global marketing and commercialisation.

The company focuses on niche dosage forms and therapies targeting rare, underserved, and respiratory-related conditions.

Leadership teams from both organisations said they will prioritise operational continuity, regulatory compliance, product quality, and patient care as the integration process continues.

In addition, the newly established organisation has opened discussions with strategic investors, licensors, and portfolio companies interested in collaborating on future growth opportunities within the US specialty pharmaceutical sector.
