BIRAC debuts India’s biotech & medtech start-ups at Bharatiya Vyapar Mahotsav 2026

Through its dedicated pavilion, BIRAC is connecting visitors, investors and industry leaders with emerging Indian innovators while highlighting how its funding, infrastructure and mentorship programmes help turn scientific research into market-ready products.

 

INDIA—The Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC), a public sector enterprise under the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India, is showcasing its innovation and start-up ecosystem through a dedicated pavilion at the Bharatiya Vyapar Mahotsav (BVM) 2026.

The event, taking place from August 12 to 15 at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, is jointly organised by the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) and the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO).

Recognized as one of India’s largest trade exhibitions, BVM 2026 celebrates the theme, “Made in India, Made for India, Made for the World.”

The event brings together traders, manufacturers, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), investors, policymakers and institutions from across the country.

Promoting India’s Biotechnology Innovation Ecosystem

At the exhibition, the BIRAC pavilion provides visitors, investors, industry leaders and the public with an opportunity to interact directly with some of India’s most promising biotechnology and medical technology start-ups.

The showcase also highlights how BIRAC’s funding programmes, innovation schemes and support infrastructure help transform laboratory discoveries into affordable, commercially viable products.

Since its establishment, BIRAC has played a key role in bridging scientific research and industry.

As the industry-academia interface agency under the DBT, it has developed one of India’s largest networks of incubators, bioclusters, accelerators and funding programmes, supporting entrepreneurs from proof-of-concept through commercialisation.

Its support framework includes seed and early-stage funding for prototype development, access to venture capital and co-investment opportunities, intellectual property (IP) and technology transfer assistance, nationwide bioincubation facilities, regulatory and market-access support, and social innovation programmes that promote affordable healthcare technologies and solutions for underserved communities.

These initiatives have enabled thousands of start-ups and MSMEs working in therapeutics, diagnostics, medical devices, agricultural biotechnology, industrial biotechnology, and clean energy to grow and commercialise indigenous technologies.

Spotlight on assistive healthcare technologies

This year’s pavilion places particular emphasis on companies developing affordable medical technologies with strong social impact.

Many participating start-ups focus on prosthetics, rehabilitation robotics and assistive devices designed to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities.

According to BIRAC, this reflects its commitment to ensuring that advances in biotechnology and medical technology remain accessible and inclusive.

BIRAC highlights inclusive innovation

Commenting on the event, Dr. Dhananjay Kumar Tiwary, Managing Director of BIRAC, said the organisation’s role extends beyond providing financial support to helping biotech entrepreneurs navigate every stage of the innovation journey through access to infrastructure, mentorship, capital and markets.

He added that many of the start-ups featured at this year’s pavilion are developing advanced assistive technologies and rehabilitation solutions that demonstrate how Indian innovation can be both technologically advanced and socially inclusive.

Dr. Tiwary further noted that platforms such as the Bharatiya Vyapar Mahotsav help connect homegrown innovations with investors, industry partners and the public while reinforcing BIRAC’s commitment to building a globally competitive and self-reliant Indian bioeconomy.

Featured Medtech Start-ups

Among the companies exhibiting at the pavilion is Reconstructive Healthcare Solutions Pvt. Ltd. (RHS), an ISO 13485-certified medical technology company established in 2018 by a maxillofacial surgeon.

Operating from its Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP)-certified facility in IMT Faridabad, Haryana, the company specialises in virtual surgical planning, patient-specific 3D-printed anatomical models, surgical guides, splints, and dental and orthopaedic implants.

It integrates advanced imaging, software and precision manufacturing to support personalised surgery and medical education.

GenElek Technologies, an IIT Delhi-incubated deep-tech medical robotics company, is also exhibiting its intelligent robotic exoskeletons for gait rehabilitation.

Its flagship product, the Sencibel Robotic Gait Trainer, is a lower-limb robotic exoskeleton that offers multiple therapy modes, real-time monitoring, and detailed performance analytics for patients with neurological and musculoskeletal disorders.

Another featured company, Exobot Dynamics Pvt. Ltd., develops advanced upper-limb prosthetics and wearable robotic systems.

Incubated at IIT Delhi and supported by BIRAC, Atal Incubation Centre (AIC), the IHFC, the Society for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SACC), the Department of Science and Technology (DST), the National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People (NCPEDP), and FICCI-Mercedes Benz, the company has introduced GripX, a lightweight myoelectric prosthetic hand designed for Indian healthcare settings.

It is also developing a next-generation bionic hand known as X1 under its long-term Human Physical AI programme.

Rymo Technologies Pvt. Ltd., founded in 2020, is showcasing its connected neurorehabilitation ecosystem that combines robotics, virtual reality (VR), artificial intelligence (AI) and functional electrical stimulation.

Its product portfolio includes Mobi-L, Mend, Nudge, Aura XR and Pulse FES, which have been deployed at 779 locations across 612 hospitals and clinics, including AIIMS, Apollo Hospitals, Sakra World Hospital and Manipal Hospitals.

Bengaluru-based Translead Medtech Pvt. Ltd. is presenting Stand at Eaze, a non-powered assistive chair that helps users transition between sitting and standing using a compliant hinge mechanism.

The technology is based on more than a decade of biomechanics research conducted at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc).

The device is registered as a Class A medical device with the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO), while clinical evaluations continue at partner hospitals.

Torchit Pvt. Ltd. is also exhibiting its portfolio of assistive technologies, including the Saarthi Smart Mobility Aid, the Jyoti AI ecosystem comprising AI Vision Glasses and the AI Reader, braille solutions and the Saksharta Inclusive Education Kit.

Working alongside government agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), hospitals and corporate social responsibility (CSR) partners, the company has supported more than two million people across India and other emerging markets.
