USA—Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. (NYSE: TMO) has completed the sale of its microbiology business to Astorg, a pan-European private equity firm, for approximately $1.075 billion.
The transaction comprises cash consideration and a US$50 million seller note.
The sale transfers a business that develops and supplies microbiology products used across clinical diagnostics, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and food safety testing.
The business generated approximately US$645 million in revenue in 2025 and previously operated within Thermo Fisher’s Specialty Diagnostics segment.
Microbiology business changes ownership
The microbiology business provides antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) products and culture media solutions that help laboratories identify microorganisms and determine their susceptibility to antimicrobial medicines.
Its portfolio serves a broad range of customers, including clinical laboratories, pharmaceutical companies and organizations involved in food safety testing. These products support laboratory workflows that require reliable identification and analysis of microorganisms.
By completing the transaction, Thermo Fisher has transferred the microbiology business to Astorg as part of its portfolio management strategy. The private equity firm will now oversee the business and its operations under new ownership.
