Eurofins CDMO Alphora expands API manufacturing capacity in Canada

CANADA—Eurofins CDMO Alphora has expanded its development and manufacturing capacity in Mississauga, Ontario, to meet growing demand for both non-potent and high-potency active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs).
The expansion adds 627 square feet of manufacturing space at the company’s Mississauga facility.
According to the company, the new suites include walk-in fume hoods designed to support glass reactors with capacities of up to 100 liters.
The expanded area also benefits from an analytical laboratory and a good manufacturing practice (GMP) warehouse.
In addition, the investment increases the capacity of the site’s kilolab, which supports the transition from early laboratory experiments to larger-scale manufacturing.
The kilolab provides an intermediate production environment where processes can be developed and refined before being transferred to commercial-scale operations.
This capability supports pharmaceutical developers working with increasingly complex molecules and manufacturing requirements.

The walk-in fume hoods provide controlled working environments for processes involving these materials, while the reactor capacity gives development teams greater flexibility during process optimization and scale-up.
The analytical laboratory provides testing support alongside manufacturing activities, allowing teams to assess materials and processes during development.
Meanwhile, the GMP warehouse supports the controlled storage and movement of materials needed for production.
Supporting complex drug development
Eurofins CDMO Alphora said the expanded capacity will allow it to support highly potent molecules at different stages of development while maintaining its focus on quality, safety and operational performance.
The company also said the new capabilities strengthen its integrated antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) manufacturing services.
The site can produce linkers and payloads used in ADCs and conjugate them with monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) manufactured at the same facility.
By bringing these activities together at one site, Eurofins CDMO Alphora can reduce the number of external handoffs involved in ADC production.
The company said this approach can also help shorten development timelines and reduce supply chain complexity.
The facility currently employs about 250 people. Eurofins did not disclose the financial value of the latest expansion.
Earlier investment in Mississauga
The latest expansion follows a larger investment announced in September 2024, when Eurofins began a C$64.1 million (US$46.6 million) construction project to expand its Mississauga campus.
The project added a 50,000-square-foot facility to the company’s 14-acre campus. Eurofins designed the facility to manufacture monoclonal antibodies and protein therapies for clinical and commercial customers.
The new building expands the site’s capacity to produce biologic medicines and complements the company’s existing development and manufacturing infrastructure.
